This looks so damn good I'm going to indulge myself in a rare self *promote
siftbotsays...Self promoting this video and sending it back into the queue for one more try; last queued Monday, May 14th, 2012 12:10am PDT - promote requested by original submitter dag.
00Scud00says...It sounds cool, but at the same time I can't help but think, how many of the laws of physics did we break to make this happen?
HugeJerksays...J.J. Abrams does a good job of finding interesting show ideas, putting together a decent cast, getting a budget for a good looking production... and then leaves the shows to writers who have no idea on where they are going to take it, so it ends up a confusing mess that never has a satisfying pay-off.
rebuildersays...Seems like a nice idea that's gone through a few committee meetings too many. Hopefully it's just the trailer that's uninspired.

Weird - I had a much more positive takeaway from this trailer - but then I love this kind of stuff.
Actually, if I think about it - my two favourite SF themes are:

Agreed, premise != story arc.
jonnysays...I saw this as an ad while looking for some other video... and forgot what I was looking for. First skippable ad I didn't skip.
I'm a little confused by the guy going all Neo with the swords (on the marble staircase, no less), but hey, who doesn't love a good 1 on 10 sword fight?
Engelssays...Oh look, formulaic drek leaping in to exploit the hunger games mania! Yay!
Sarzysays...So it's an Escape From LA sequel, then?
I'm getting a very Falling Skies vibe from this -- hopefully it turns out better than that show.
dystopianfuturetodaysays...I actually thought Lost got better in the second season after Abrams left the show. Of course it all came apart in the end.
This looks cool. I've got a soft spot in my heart for dystopian fiction.>> ^HugeJerk:

srdsays...For some reason I keep thinking "Jeremiah".
Well, I hope this will have a plot beyond people shouting at each other and glitzy action sequences.
Auger8says...Personally I'm with @dag on this I can't wait. Absolutely love these kinda gritty sci-fi stories. Maybe that's why I liked the Fallout games so much.

Requisite nonsensical contrarian vomitus. I'm guessing SNL hasn't been funny since the seventies, either.

Jericho too. Though personally I think Jeremiah went South when they cast the lead character.
nach0ssays...1) So when the grid goes out, lift short-circuits and planes drop straight out of the sky?
2) You car's battery maintains its charge via the alternator. The Prius (being picked clean by some unreasonbly attractive looking woman) charges itself (i.e. it doesn't plug-in) via friction (google it). Unless it's some EMP event, at least some cars will run.
2) For a semi-post apoc environment, the denizens look incredibly tailored and freshly primped.
rayoksays...Hmm.. I was thinking more like a sequel to the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. At the end of that the aliens shut down all power instead of destroying everything. I always wondered how something like that would turn out..>> ^Sarzy:

IMHO, SNL was never funny. It had funny people, some of whom went on to do funny things, but the show itself was always mediocre.

Fusionautsays...First, Americans were afraid of the British, then the Natives, then the British again, then other Americans, after that the Africans, then the Spanish, then the African-Americans, then the Germans, then the African-Americans, then the Germans and the Japanese, then the Russians, then other Americans (Commies/Atheists), then the Vietcong, then the Russians again, then the Iraqis, then the Iranians, then the Al Qaeda, then the Iraqis again, then other Americans again (TSA), and NOW they're afraid of losing electricity. (I may be missing some groups and this list may be out of sequence)
P.S. oh yeah, don't forget Muslims!
jonnysays...You forgot French, Iroquois, Mexican, Cuban, Malay, Korean, Panamanian, Venezuelan, Columbian, African but oddly not Afrikaner, ... and don't forget Poland! oh... actually, I guess we never really hated them. But really, no one can forget how we hated Ourselves.

steroidgsays...Pffft, jja is a one trick hack who can never deliver anything worth while, because all he cares about is having a carrot dangling over people who pay to watch him dangling it while adding more lens flares.
Porksandwichsays...What about Americans afraid of aliens?!?!?! and bears?
Looks like it could be a good show. Wondering what the reason will be, stopping chemical reactions in non-living things or virus permeating non-living things (I really hate virus story lines, especially inanimate affecting strains).
Don't think nature would take over the world so much in just 15 years as they show in a few of those clips, especially urban paved areas. Nor would a car be a complete rust bucket in that same amount of time.
If it ends up being good, it will be canceled. Sci-Fi and non-family oriented comedies don't make it past season 1 much anymore, or spend the rest of their seasons continually being threatened and budget cut until they suck enough to take off the air.
Edit:
Im with dag on this though, I like these types of topics. But I don't hold much hope for television anymore to produce sci-fi or fantasy shows that aren't kid oriented. They were bound and determined to end Fringe, I am shocked it got one more season. Game of Thrones....just waiting to see what they do to ruin it.

Exactly! After seeing the recent list of network show cancellations, Im afraid to say that I might like Revolution. I'll just get into it, only for it to be cancelled without getting any answers. i.e. Alcatraz and The River. They werent the best shows ever made, but I was into them...and now I'll never know.
Here's hoping Revolution can pull through.
direpicklesays...JJ Abrams sucks, and everything he's ever made has sucked.
There, I said it!
DarkenRahlsays...I wonder if SM Sterling had anything to do with this, considering this seems to be a pretty literal take on his work...
probiesays...I like the idea behind the story (losing the electricity), but lose the teenage angle and the "We've got you surrounded! Oh? Didn't you know I was a Kung Fu master?" element and you might have had an interesting story.

It's amazing how fast nature reclaims things once they are no longer used or maintained. The ruins of The Concord had trees growing out of the concrete floor in the lobby less than a decade after it was abandoned.
xxovercastxxsays...I like the setup. I fear that it will turn into a story about the (mis)adventures of a scrappy band of insufferable assholes ala The Walking Dead. For some reason, that's what's popular these days.

Seems the idea is more like an EMP on some crazy-go-nuts scale. Even that wouldn't explain why new electronics can't be made, but, you know, it's sci-fi.

I was thinking the same thing. When the preview first started I was like 'oh this is a good idea!' But by the end I was thinking 'contrite, cliched, waste of an idea with some useless Hunger Games adaptations.'
I just have a feeling this is Walking Dead all over again. For fans of that show this is IMHO but they took a great comic and a good starting point and threw it out of the window in favor of horrid acting, massive plot-holes and soap opera style cliched writing.
And people wonder why I prefer british TV. Better writing, better acting, shows actually feature mature plot lines with depth and character. Shows like Walking Dead would have been fantastic if a UK producer had gotten a hold of it.

It's 15 years later with no lathes, electric tools or CAD/CAM machines to make spare parts or bullets. Hand made guns would be rampant. People would probably be hoarding the "good stuff" for military actions and guarding the Warlords. Glorified sheriffs like the ones pictured would just have flintlocks because that's all you'd need against bows and arrows.
Just my logic talking. I have no clue what the actual reason is. Probably the Black Smoke Monster.

Ya, found more clips. http://videosift.com/video/Revolution-Power-Struggle "Owning a firearm is a hangin' offense."
kceaton1says...I like the idea, but I always find it funny that it kills off everything electrical in a stupendous fashion and yet it never once touches living organisms--if it can't touch living organisms, LOTS of stuff would still work assuming it has shielding. There is a reason lightning bolts can stop your heart after all, or you sticking a fork into a power outlet--something of this magnitude might throw off the rhythm of the heart killing people and animals, especially the closer you get to ground zero.
We are an chemical-electrical device.
Hope the show does good.
P.S.: Did it get rid of lightning too (that would cause problems unforeseen)? Cause you could always, slowly harvest electrical energy from... I'll shut-up now...
