Just how smart is Donald Trump?

He'll happily tell ya ALL about it!
Stormsingersays...

I'd estimate his IQ at somewhere in the 70-80 point range. That's based on his exceedingly limited vocabulary and his apparent functional illiteracy, along with his well-below-average history of business "success".

Ugh. Unpopular opinion incoming....

Trump is no genius, but he's smart enough to have learned how to talk dumb. He's trained himself to speak using simple language. How he speaks, and how he crafts the public's perception of himself is no accident. This has worked to his advantage both in appeal to those... less educated than himself, and in negotiations, when opponents might underestimate him, as all his opponents did during the last election.

/unpopular opinion.

Now to be clear, I don't like Trump. Just stating what I see. He isn't stupid.

Guess you don't know about IQ.

140 and over : If you have an IQ range of 140 and over, it means you are a genius or almost genius.

120 - 139 : With an IQ of 120 to 139, it means you have very superior intelligence and your intelligence is better than most. A superior intelligence means that your intelligence is better than most people but not as high as those with an IQ of 140.

110 - 119 : On the other hand, if you have an IQ of 110-119, it means you have a superior intelligence and that means that your intelligence is on middle ground- which means that it is high but not higher than most.

90 - 109 : When you have an intelligence of 90-109, it means that you have an intelligence of normal or average people. Normal thinking means that you are less intelligent and generally have a slower thinking. So people who cannot get to the solution or are slower in thinking will mean that they have normal intelligence.

80 - 89 : On the other hand, if you have an intelligence of 80-89, that means you are a dull person. A dull person or boring person means that they generally tend to indulge in things that are too enjoyable. Dull people tend not to indulge in things that are too demanding.

Below 80 : Give it another try maybe you will see the logic behind some questions after several tries. Also make sure you didn't leave some questions unanswered, leaving a question unanswered will give you a 0 point for that question.

Sounds exactly right to me.

Difficulty not only in answering questions but in actually understanding the question. --- Check!

Leaves some questions unanswered. ---- Check!

Makes random shit up because he either doesn't understand perfectly simple questions, or has absolutely no concept of the material in spite of ample access to expert briefings (in bullet form even!) ---- Check!

I'd say 70-80 is about right. He probably was higher a few decades ago, but he appears to have some form of dementia now.

I'm far from convinced that this is the case, and feel it's at least equally likely that he's simply in possession of a low intellect. I'm curious as to whether any examples exist of him speaking in way but dumb, outside of prepared speeches. If he's actually of normal or higher intelligence, I would think that an interview or candid moment would have been caught on video at some point of him conversing at his level. I'll admit to not having gone digging for such an example however, but if anyone knows of one I'd certainly be interested.

@moonsammy:

Have a look at this interview from 1980. Pay attention to the patterns of his speech. Notice how they are different than the example used in the Nerdwriter analysis I posted above.

http://www.msnbc.com/documentaries/watch/today-show-1980-with-donald-trump-589527619719

At a later interview (1988?) you can hear that the patterns in his speech are a bit closer to the Nerdwriter. You can hear how he occasionally repeats words. He has had more practice with interviews here than in 1980 and it shows. How he crafts his speech is not a product of an untrained mind--it is intentional.

The way he dodges the "are you smarter than other people?" question is also interesting.

Again, I'm not arguing that he's a genius. Just that assumptions of his intellect based on the choice to use simple language have been mistaken. His choice to use simple language is a big part of what gave him broad appeal among voters for whom higher education was out of reach. It may have won him the presidency.

I don't like him, but he isn't stupid.
