I'm thinking maybe that tickets for moving violations on motorcycles should be stricter. If you're determined to consistently drive well above the speed of traffic, weaving around cars, you probably shouldn't have a motorcycle license.

Though they're certainly a minority amongst motorcycle riders generally, I still regularly see quite a few people (typically younger dudebros) driving in a way that makes a gruesome accident a statistical inevitability regardless of their skill level (that they likely overestimate, to make things worse).

The libertarian side of me disagrees, but I think active GPS tracking for any bike over 250cc would do a lot to help cut down on idiots.

The main problem is you can spend $5,000 and get a vehicle that can accelerate to 60mph in the low single digits, and easily go over 150mph.

Try spending even twice that much on a car and get any where near that performance.

My understanding is that motorcyclists are taught to drive aggressively because it is thought to be safer. That is, on your bike you are safer passing than being passed. I'm not sure I buy the logic though, and these idiots have got to go.

That's true to an extent, as well as always having an escape route in mind, but what this guy was doing was approaching the car ahead so quickly that the driver couldn't possibly have seen him and anticipated his maneuvers He (or she) signaled, probably checked their mirrors for traffic, began the lane change at a safe rate, and suddenly there was a motorcycle there. Typically, the time the elapses between when I check my blind spot and then begin to shift lanes is about two or three seconds. Even if I saw a motorcycle in my lane in the rearview, I couldn't possibly be expected to to know he intended to pull into my lane.

The guy on the motorcycle (who is clearly an exceptionally dense and reckless case), was just treating traffic as though they were obstacles. There aren't many motorcycle riders *that* incompetent, even among the dudebros.

When I'm driving, and there is a motorcycle coming up on me, I always make a point to make eye contact (either directly or in a mirror) to let him know I know he's there. The motorcyclist in this video is just suicidally insane.

Fake? The motorcycle was going considerably faster than the car he hit. Wouldn't he have continued at the same speed (or close to it) once he was airborne?

I think that momentum was slowed by his head hitting the back of the car and was also converted into rotational energy which flipped him around.

There is so many factors that came together for this video though that it is either a really amazing timing/coincidence or it could be a very well setup stunt/cg demo.

Either way it looks real enough for me so call me impressed.
