I guess McDonald's burgers get nice buns the same way supermodels do. The magic of editing.

I've worked with photographers before who have done food photography, and despite appearances you'd be far, far happier eating the products you buy than the ones in the photos.

Refreshingly honest, bizarre for a mob like McD's but the process actually makes sense... = \

There was never any doubt that one is slapped together quickly and the other is 'styled' (mastercrafted, whatever you want to call it), but tbh, it's McDonalds, it's not like you're going for a gourmet experience...

dag says...

Not that honest. Extremely scripted and well-edited to show things in the best possible light - this is a video equivalent of a doctored burger.

They don't show you how they only cook the burger on the edges so it doesn't lose any of its fat bulk. Quarter pounders are only quarter pounders before cooking.

Yeah, this is all fine and dandy but, I'm pretty sure the in latest McDonald's commercial I've seen, the burgers and fries are computer animated (given away by the horrible shading and colour saturation) -- burgers do NOT look like that.

lol... the stylist reminds me of Terry from reno 911 .... anyone?

i prefer to rationalize my burger eating "in the best possible light"... not reality! f that.

Lolthien says...

That is much more honest a commercial than I was expecting. I'm sure there may have been a little whitewashing. I'm sure if you go into a McDonald's with a camera crew and let them know you are the director of marketing for McDonalds Canada you are going to get a pretty well made burger. But all in all, this was much more straightforward than I expected. And they have received +1 goodwill.

Either way, it's still not so much food as it is the empty shell of what once was food, marinated in chemicals.

I haven't eaten McDonald's for a few years now. The last time I tried, it made me sick to my stomach.

There is about as much truth in fast food advertisements as there is in a wedding photo scrapbook.

On a side note, F the Royale with cheese, it's all about the Big Mac!

Wow, saddened by how people jump right in with 'wow, this is so REAL, so TRUTHFUL'

Really?

0:25 - "Here's my hot and fresh quarter pounder with cheese. Looks good, look at this beauty"

Yeah, that's natural, that's truthful

0:42 - Showing the boom mic in shot to give it that 'real, just shot on the fly' feel... yeah, because documentary makers are incapable of keeping it out of shot.

1:12 - Yeah, that's not a regular burger you get in store, it's far more plumped up, not squished at all

3:13 - Ooooh, yeah, steam, that's what makes the buns be flatter. How long did they sit and think about a 'good' excuse as to why the buns are flatter?

All in all this is a steaming pile of shit. Sure it shows some of the truth as to how they style it, but it's CAREFULLY crafted to show the original burger in as good a light as possible and CAREFULLY worded such that all the excuses are never derogatory to the burger from the store.

Man people, you have ZERO critical thinking ability.

it makes sense to me. they doctored it up to look nice, but the thing i like about it is they were showing that what you get in your meal is, in fact, what is in the picture. they just explained that they're trying to show everything that the sandwich has to offer, like a burger preview. with a regular burger they don't need to worry so much about presentation, and it would be dumb to put all the toppings on one side.

I have the same cuisinart grill! Now I can make mc'd burgers like them! On second thought, never mind, I'll just cut out the middle mad and toss them violently into my toilet. (but i give credit for the explanation)

I remember seeing a video about how McD's frankensteins their burgers for marketing. It was a bit more odd than this one is. I'm pretty sure the way they actually do it is with absolutely none of the original ingredients.
