"P" is for PROBIE (a probationary status)

You lose the "P" when you post a video that reaches a voting total of TEN.

Hmm. I have noticed that in the latest version of the sift, the submit video button is weirdly hidden. I wonder if the user unfriendliness described in this post is behind the severe decline in activity on this site over the last year or two.

I noticed the same since v5 release.

Guys - I have some remarks and answers to give but I'd like to wait until our Siftaversary which is just around the corner.

I'm sympathetic but surely a seasoned web-user would know to hover over strange things in the hope that some alt text might assist?

That said I think you have a point. Someone else once wrote eloquently and at some length about how the site should really be optimised to stress the ability to submit videos, i.e the engine that drives the site.

Personally I think the menus could do with a serious revamp to also focus on the videos and make it easier to find cool stuff. The site's been less sticky for me of late because I wish these things were there.

I've settled for letting videos find me via twitter/reddit yet when I return here there's always cool stuff I haven't seen. So there is hope!

Thank you guys. I just submitted a video, so we'll see what happens. I've read pretty much everything in that FAQ and on the WIKI. Now it's a matter of putting the information to use.

would be nice to see some stats, @dag. seems traffic has gone down considerably since Sift v5
