Is it poor form to upvote your own sift post?
I've had this question nagging me for a while, so I thought I'd push it over to sift talk to ask all of you what you think. Is it poor form to upvote your own post? When I'm taken to the queue after my new post hits, I always click the upvote out of habit.
Is that poor form?
Is it against the sift rules?
Can I have some candy?
What do YOU think??

I don't think it's poor form.

Definitely not poor form.
Ok... hypothetically: Would you ever post a video you didn't think worthy of your vote?
I guess if you were posting it for another sifter...

Or maybe something that you didn't particularly like, but felt needed to be seen. I don't know, I think that would be rare though.
Why post if you wouldn't vote for it yourself? Not poor form. Anyway, some of my submissions would have gotten pretty lonely without my single vote.
Omnithrope has candy...
I answered this question before...I'm more than happy to do it again.
Stay away from my candy, big man!
Go ahead and vote for your own posts. I made the decision not to vote for my own after I hit 100, and then revised that rule to vote only for anything I submitted for my collective. But I'm weird like that.
Dag: I have done that before.
that's a good point. ant, have you ever downvoted one of your own videos?

I think downvoting your own posts would be a bit strange. Like banging your head on a wall to punish yourself for impure thoughts.
I could see posting and downvoting something so horiffic that I needed to share, but thought was completely awful. Say, perhaps... someone dropping a garbage bag full of hamburger off of a building.
Wait... I'd upvote that.
Not poor form - some videos require a little bit of self support so that they can escape the queue!
Why would you not do it?
There is a little psychology involved with the queue and the few queue regulars out there. Maybe I should conduct some experiments. So if a video in the first few pages (fresh) of the queue only has 1 or 0 votes, it is likely a dud and usually ignored. If it has 2 or three at least someone else liked it. 6 or 7 early on is a hit and I almost always autovote it even if I don't watch it or wouldn't like it, because it is hot enough and with enough interest that it probably is good.
So, leaving your submission sitting with a "0" for too long can cost you votes in the queue.
Now the other side of the equation is videos sitting deep in the queue can linger mostly because of age, and no one is checking out the end of the queue until a video is about to expire and there are some people who do check those out to try and save any that need saved.
You may often have a video lingering with 8 or 9 votes.. and never get that last one. So if you didn't auto vote your submission as mentioned above, it is helpful to save that last vote to put a video over the top (as in 90s arm wrestling movie).
So, for questionable, random videos always immediately give yourself a vote to give the video a chance.
For obviously good videos that will garner a few votes, save the self-vote until it needs it later on.
Ya think I probably have given this too much thought...
(I need the disable account for one week feature.. please Dag, implement this feature for poor addicts)
