isreals new racism-the persecution of african migrants

About 60,000 African migrants have arrived in Israel since 2006, fleeing unrest in their home countries. But upon arrival in the ostensibly democratic country, the migrants have faced intense persecution and have been branded as "infiltrators" by right-wing politicians and activists.

On behalf of some of my ex-country men, I would offer my sincere apology. I can't apologize for all of them, as they are clearly racist a$$holes. Israel still has daddy-in-the-sky issues and a very short term memory. Again, sorry!

Jews in Israel are the most racist bunch ever. On a visit there touring me and my group got called gentile dogs and yelled at. Much the same way that happened to that wacky documemtary guy Morgan Spurlock

But I got to visit old buildings many many times older than the US and went to London and did the Beefeater tour and I was the annoying American tourist so all stereotypes fit just right I guess that time

It's hilarious to me that they're so desperate to hang on to their little "promised land" that they are becoming the next Reich.
This is assuming everything in the video is true, but I feel confident it is because for the last 10+ years I've heard nothing but stories like this from Israel. Plus Palestine, et al.

scheherazadesays...

No crap. First they move there from Europe and kick out the natives, and then they get all pissy that someone else would move in.

The bigger irony is that the descendents of the people of Judea [who the Israelis claim to be, who are the supposed rightful people of Israel] are actually the Palestinians [today practicing Islam].
The current-day Israeli's themselves are a 50/50 mix of Europeans and Jews from other Arab states that moved there after the partition of Palestine post WW2 [committed by the U.K.].

The true home of many Israeli's is Europe, in the countries that turned on them in WW2. But at the time, it was easier to ship out than to go home and say hi to the neighbors that quite happily sold one out to the nazis (they weren't exactly popular, not just in Germany. As disliked as the Nazis were, their attitude towards Jews was not unique). It's surreal how the cycle of violence repeats itself.

I want to roll my eyes every time someone says "thousand year conflict"... when it's more like 65 years.

So sad to see that the people who you'd think, given their history, should know better are becoming like this.

Sorry to burst your bubble people but this "report" is biased beyond belief.
I live very close to this problematic area. I don't deny for a second this is a problem and I don't presume to have solutions for this issue.
A few things to keep in mind though:

1. Tel Aviv is pretty much the Israeli capital of left-wing liberals, there is no shortage of people calling out for a humane and democratic solution to the problem here and no shortage of local criticism for the racism expressed here.

2. There's a lot of racism, ignorance and bigotry in Israel. Much of it is directly tied to "religious nationalism". It's quite similar to the type of bullshit you see every day on networks like Fox and to the unbearable ignorance of Christian Republicans. Showing video clips of religious leadership and right-wing mobs expressing that ignorance as if it represents the Israeli society as a whole is retarded. It's the equivalent of showing Glenn Beck videos as a portrayal of the US's stance on immigration.

Honestly it's these types of videos that make me wonder how deluded I am in thinking I have any semblance of understanding of American politics, being a foreigner exposed mostly to left-wing friendly content.

@NinjaInHeat what would you say are the biased bits? I don't recall if he embellished in the commentary that much but the footage was pretty damning in itself. With the governmental ministers raving about infiltrators?

I'm sure not all of israel is like that, but i have to say that with a people so historically persecuted you'd almost expect the good israelis to show up to lambast the ignorant ones and/or raise them better, shame them in their own communities for being xenophobic. It's the same thing that i think of when it comes to terrorism. Surely terrorists are best tackled by the community and family and people that they come from, and if so then surely it will become less and less of a problem over time. If not, then maybe the overwhelming amount of good people from wherever you're talking about should be more proactive in stopping minority lunatics doing what lunatics do.

When nice people stand aside and allow some fringe element to politically and socially ostracise an ethnic minority based on colour or creed, things like world war 2 happen before it's resolved. And that's only if you're fortunate enough to have people in other countries to come and stand up for you. I'm not being funny, but i really would expect a jewish person to appreciate that.
(2nd and 3rd paragraph not directed at you specifically towards you ninja, speaking my general thoughts there)

NinjaInHeatsays...

lol

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying xenophobes are a minority in Israel, on the contrary. Unfortunately the world is full of ignorant assholes, Israel's no different, probably worse actually.

I'm not defending Israel or it's policies, all I'm saying is that this video is propaganda of the worst kind; the type that makes even myself, an Israeli with extremely left-wing values (almost anti-Zionist some would say), cringe.

Nice people don't "stand aside" and allow shit. They do what they can, more often than not it's not enough, and their efforts are crushed by the overwhelming stupidity of the masses, a problem quite common in most societies.

Believe me I'm the last guy who would make pro-Israeli arguments and I'm not making them now.
I'm just disgusted by this type of "journalism", it's incredibly cheap, and I feel a need to point it out.

Israel is a failure. You can't have a Jewish democracy—just like you can't have a Christian or Muslim democracy.

It really burns me up that we give them billions every year. (Esp. considering we borrow it from the Chinese.)

The thing is though: Glenn Beck can't deport anyone. The Westboro Baptist church can't lock people up for being gay. Fox News has no control of anything, they're just a news outlet.

In Israel on the other hand, it looks like there are actual people in power who do have the power to imprison the Sudanese in a specially-built prison just for them, where they stay until the Israeli government is ready to deport them. That's what's show in the video.

So, the comparison to US television isn't all that fitting. Sure, it's not showing you or your ilk, but it's still not an apt comparison. It's nothing like this.
