The Craft of War: Blind

A rogue infiltrates Stormwind seeking to assassinate Lady Prestor (who is really the black dragon Onyxia).

An extremely skillful animation using WoW's own character models. (I'm especially a big fan of the shadows. Call me an animation geek.)

ive seen quite a few machinima, but this one is about as top notch as it gets. not necessarily because of the story or the music, but the animation. most WoW machinima just use whatever emotes are built into the game and kind of make do with whats there, this is the first one ive seen that takes the models and literally animates them. and did a damn good job of it too, it was all very smooth.

lighting was incredible, and the effects (sword sparks, pulling off her hood in the end, wings, etc were all spot on. i wouldn't doubt that if anyone had never seen wow before watched this they might think it was all modeled in house as well.

I wonder how he got the models.

Did he use the tools, or did Blizzard give him the permission.

They get really pissed when people crack the MPQs... but hey people still do it.

They went crazy over their standalone server crack, and any sort of wow model viewers.

They don't seem to mind cracking MPQ's just to "have a look", it's when people crack them in order to make changes that they get mad. Wowhead has a 3d model viewer for nearly every item in the game, and I doubt Blizzard is unaware or unhappy with that.

If anything, I'd imagine they'd be more upset about their copyrighted materials being used without permission, but Blizzard is smarter than Lucasfilm -- they like this whole machinima phenomenon, and encourage it with contests. They even seem to be hiring the winners to make official cutscenes for them.

I loved the music...guess im wierd like that. Normaly the fight choreography would have had me on the edge of my seat..accept.. advent children was released a few years ago.

This is great, with a strangely very appropriate soundtrack. But most people do not understand that.

Still, I don't think it qualifies as "machinima" for the reason stated above by 3daysawake: it should use only the game engine itself, not outside editing, AFAIK.

Psychologicsays...

The music isn't terrible on it's own... it's the transition from the Warcraft music that really kills the mood. Maybe if they started with the... whatever it was... at the beginning then it wouldn't have seemed so terrible.

Awesome animation though.
