The Bourne Legacy trailer

packosays...

different character, my hope is that this movie is about him alone... then a sequel or something... with both characters... Damon and this dude... where this dude gets sicced on Bourne

Too bad all the fight scenes are going to be more seizure-inducing quick-cut nonsense.

Sad to say this would put most fight scenes today to shame:

I guess this is cooler, and totally not gay:

especially when the guy magically rises up off of the floor @ 1:37

"There was never just one" - lol, that's a lazy way to justify a new Bourne film. Maybe they can keep doing Bourne films in this way as the demand is there but Damon did manage to smuggle some acting into the originals and I wonder if they can create a character as well as more action.

Oh yeah... there was never just two, either... and she's a woman!

Ummm not really when there are NOVELS! It's written by someone else but it's still considered part of the series so no it's not lazy.

I'm totally seeing this...I love the Bourne movies, I think they're a lot of fun. I know tons of people who HATE shaky cam but I actually love it. I've never gotten motion sickness and I love the feeling of a camera being out of control or found footage so I love the Bourne movies.

Not to be that guy, but (a) the books are *so* much better (and completely different) than the movies and (b)my understanding is that the post Ludlum books don't hold a candle to the originals. Anyway, the movies don't follow the plot of the original books at all so I don't see how a claim that more books exist can in any way validate the plot of these movies.

K so I'm that guy. The movies were fun but I read the books after and then was sad for everyone else that never will

The Bourne films taught us that the quality of the writing and direction matters so much more than the star power of the actor or the legacy of the character. He basically replaced Bond, forcing Bond to modernise and leave the schtick behind. As a massive Bond fan, I'm thankful for that if nothing else.

So I'm confident they can make a seamless transition so long as it's well written and directed. Renner can do the job.

The guy in the Bourne scene seems like he's playing it as a Terminator.

@jiggajohnson, I guess it depends on what you're going for. I love that scene in the Princess Bride, but it's for the humour not the flynning. Personally I like the shaky cam fight scenes in the Bourne movies, it reflects the chaos and dsperation of a real fight.

JiggaJonsonsays...

@ChaosEngine Hmm I suppose it does add something, just like this shaky-cam vid conveys how you can't see things in focus when you're riding by them quickly on a bike and how you can't hear things with a loud wind blowing in your ear.

For comparison, here's a shaky cam video of a similar bike ride that's gone through some stabilization:

Enzobluesays...

Shaky cam is good if in a vehicle, or the character is drunk or being tossed around etc, but the borne movie was relentless about it. I remember a scene like where they couldn't even show a number on a hotel door without shaking the cam at it, it was pointless most of the time.

I'm confused. Doesn't every single movie make it abundantly clear that there are lots of these agents? He spends a great deal of each movie fighting against the others who went through the same program as he did.

sanderbossays...

Okay, this is weird. I thought Jeremy Renner was being pitched as the successor to Ethan Hunt's character in the last Mission Impossible. And now he is also the new Jason Bourne?
Will he also become the next James Bond?

Also, nice take on the Inception *Bwaaaaahh* sound in the trailer music.

Yes but it's just that they've taken that banally obvious fact and present it as the initial jumping off point for the new film. It just made me laugh at how lazy that was.

Oof, Matt Damon is a tough act to follow.

True, but if there's one guy who has proven he can play edgy characters, it's Jeremy Renner. In fact, considering the lazy "by the way we also have a Bourne Jr guy" intro (yes it's consistent with the Bourniverse, but it's still a lazy intro) and cliché lines, he's the only thing that got me interested here. That and the possibility to have Paul-GreenSHAKESHAKESHAKESHAKEgrass-less Bourne movie.

Re: Pounding Bwaaah Sound In Trailer. You say Inception, I raise you an Alien (1979).

direpicklesays...

@JiggaJonson: What's funny is that that is the least-shakycam fight scene in the least-shakycam Bourne movie. That one's actually quite steady and easy to follow. It just dumps around a lot. Grab one of the fight scenes from the Bourne Supremacy. That's where it went freaking nuts.
