eric3579says...A glass bottomed balcony with a skirt on? There's all kinds of fail in that design.
Stormsingersays...That's not fail, dude...that's WIN!
joedirtsays...It would be like 100x cheaper to just install the same apt windows as a sliding door and put a permanent balocny out there. I really can't understand the appeal other then the building looks cleaner when all the windows are closed.
Note: when in balcony mode, bugs, birds and everything.. it's open air. Also, all your A/C just went out the window... When in window mode you can't open it for any fresh air. Also you cannot clean the windows except with exterior rope and basket. Finally, if you left that open during the rain storm.. OMG.. gallons of water flooding the place.
turboj0esays...that takes way too long to deploy to be any sorts of popular in the United States.
Stormsingersays...Guys, you're clearly focusing on the negatives, and overlooking the tremendous positive of this incredible innovation...GLASS BALCONY AND SKIRT! Everything else is irrelevant.
L0ckysays...I believe the inventor had a similiar mind.
Just need to heavily market this in women's magazines and his plan will be complete.
Paybacksays...If you have to sit down and read a magazine to wait to go out on your balcony, that's pretty damn slow.
It will be in the next Scary Movie though.

Notice the woman had time to sit and read a magazine and make a phone call while waiting for it to open.
oxdottirsays...demonstration of weight limit
antsays...Weird *music!
siftbotsays...Adding video to channels (Music) - requested by ant.
Raaaghsays...Did the bottom electrically frost up?
FlowersInHisHairsays...I doubt very much that this costs more, or is more difficult, than having a balcony added to an existing building. It takes less time to deploy than installing a balcony, too... small price to pay. (Are Americans so unwilling to wait for anything that they can't wait one minute - less, in fact - for it to deploy?) Plus you need planning permission for a balcony addition, I would imagine, and this might be easier to get permission for.
A drawback might be drainage, and the fact that when you withdraw it, any water on the floor would end up in your room.
xxovercastxxsays...I doubt your insurance policy would even allow you to have one of these in the US. There's too much opportunity for extreme stupidity when its in transition from window to balcony.

What are you even thinking??? This is not just a "window" they put into the hole in a building. This has to be engineered into the building prior to construction. Think about the loads involved.
And yes, fucking balconies are super cheap and quick when you are building a new building compared to installing these monstrosities. The only benefit I can see is architectural photos of the building when all the windows are close, or perhaps when some are open.
Besides, I can't think of too many places where anyone would leave the room open air without even a screen. Maybe they don't have insects in europe. Imagine when the motors on these thing break in 5-10 years.
joedirtsays...while you could build the LCD frosting into the glass, I do not believe this demonstration in a fake white wall studio has it. You can see at 0:29 it is the reflection of the white below. ANy LCD would instantly change color, instead of the reflection being shown.
ryanbennittsays...And what happens if you leave your favourite windowbox on the balcony when you close it? It very slowly catapults your best flower display into your living room. Of course you can have a bit of an Austin Powers moment when you realise what is happening "Noooooooooooooooooooooo...ooooooooooooooooooooooooo..."
potchi79says...The music makes me angry.
Thumpersays...Holy shit that took like 10 years to open! Now it's dated...
spoco2says...joedirt says it all... a ridiculous solution to a problem that was never there. Have a permanent balcony and sliding doors, preferably with flyscreen and you're done.
steroidgsays...According to this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMXcUqGj0U4, it can actually open within 15 seconds. My immediate questions are: What about measures against flying insects? Does it detect obstacles beneath to avoid injuries?
