Piers Morgan Finally Fucks Off With A Great Parting Shot

Soooo, you've finally gotten rid of the twat. That better not mean he comes back to England! Anyway, I enjoyed his final words, surprisingly.

You still have those little fortresses offshore, don't you?

Can't be that hard to find one that hasn't been turned into a luxurious retreat or a pirate radio station. Pick a cosy one, name it Piers' Tears and exile this little twat once and for all.

More guns doesn't mean more gun violence, just ask the Serbians.
America has (or had) the most guns per capita by far (#1 at 89 guns per 100 people) but was 13th in gun deaths with 10.9 per 100000 people.
Serbia , (#2 in per capita guns at 58 per 100) had only 3.9 gun deaths per 100000 people.
Honduras only had 6.2 guns per 100, but had 64.8 gun deaths per 100000 people!

This quite clearly proves it's not the number of guns per person that's an issue, it's the culture the people live in. Guns aren't the problem, people pointing (and shooting) them inappropriately is the issue.
That said, when a populace has proven it can't be responsible with a dangerous device, it's reasonable to make it more difficult to own the device and require prior training for it's proper usage, and punishment for improper usage. Too bad reason has left the building.

Too small of a sample to come to that conclusion. Back in Jesus times nobody died from gunshots.

Too many gun-toting hillbillies couldn't handle the truth.
OMG! somebody has a different opinion from me! let's make him lose his job and chase him out of the country!

dumbasses.

actually you are the idiot because you obviously have no freaking idea about his stand on TSA.

After the guns it's the knives, just ask the Chinese.
If this idiot had his way we'd all be wanded by a TSA agent when we go out our front door.

My statement has nothing to do with his stand on the TSA. It has to do with the fact that he feels that the government (or he himself) should decide what is good or bad for us. Kids die, gun involved = guns bad = we need government regulation. It is a stupidly narrow rationalization and one that leads to things like everyone getting a "potentially deadly weapon check" with a rubber glove each morning. We do dumb stuff like that here, we make stupid jumps in logic like that on a national scale. Ask the people that brew beer.
And it is because of things like that and stupid governmental abuses of authority, that I have the right to carry a gun. It is why it is protected in the Constitution, and it doesn't matter if it has a 9 or 20 round clip. It doesn't matter if I need it to kill a dear or to defend myself. I have the RIGHT to own a weapon. So when the day comes that, God forbid, if this country should fall - I will have the ability to protect myself and my loved ones and perhaps be able to help put it all back together again.
But instead lets focus on the fact that a gun was used, and ignore the facts that the major crimes he refers to involved people with serious mental issues. Ignore the fact that the mental health system in this country is a sham. Let's just keep thinking we're really talking about the TSA.

@My_design guns are dangerous tools. A little regulation really isn't that unreasonable.

No one really believes that firearms should be completely unregulated (unless you feel you have a right to a nuclear bomb?), so you've already accepted in principle the concept of some gun control.

And while I applaud Morgan for at least highlighting the issue, it doesn't change the fact that he's an awful human being.

Apples and oranges.

It's a lot more difficult to kill people with a knife. It's nearly impossible to kill someone from a distance with one unless you've had lots of knife-throwing training--and even then it's pretty iffy.

Plus, knives require the attacker to get close to the victims, meaning the victims have a lot better chance of seeing the attacker coming and running away or even disarming the attacker as he approaches.

So, good luck killing 20 people in under ten minutes (like Sandy Hook) with a knife unless they all happen to be unconscious on the floor.

I can totally understand where Morgan is coming from about the guns thing. I live in Japan now which has very strict gun laws. Virtually no one here owns a handgun personally. Cops are issued one for their jobs but never use them (it would be national news if a cop discharged a firearm in the line of duty). People who do legally own guns (mostly shotguns and rifles) have a legitimate need for one--they live in rural areas and stand a good chance of encountering bears or other dangerous wildlife.

As I understand it, England is very similar (even stricter--their cops don't normally carry guns). So coming from those kinds of cultures, America's gun culture seems completely bizarre. Japanese people find it baffling that anyone living in a first-world country would want to--let alone "need" to--own a handgun unless they were actively engaged in criminal activity. I'm sure Morgan feels something similar.

Personally, I admire Switzerland's approach to gun control--the military trains virtually everyone in how to safely use firearms and has them keep a government-issued military weapon in their home (but without ammo--in the event of an invasion or mobilization of the militia you have to report for duty to be issued ammo). What you get then is a population that respects and knows how to use firearms and therefore enthusiastically uses them for both sports and recreation but rarely for crime--Switzerland has one of the lowest gun murder rates in the world.
