Pedestrian Bounces Off Car Windshield, Sticks the Landing!

Somebody was speeding. Oh -- from the article I read later: According to the LiveLeak.com user who uploaded the video, the footage was captured on Oct. 17 in Russia. According to NBC, which showed the footage on the "Today" show, the car was being pursued by police who later released the video.

I'm wondering what the ratio of lucky to unlucky Russians might be... I mean are we talking for every lucky Russian there are 10 unlucky Russians, or are the Russians just super-lucky and this is an expected outcome regardless of the individual involved?

Hmmm... I guess the driver wasn't so lucky since he was attempting to get away from the police!

No matter how you look at it, living in Russia is unlucky.

He was smart to jump into the windshield. Taking physics into account, I assume the shatter-proof glass giving in a little is what saved him here. Metal car frames give far less and the impact on his body would have been far worse.

Lesson learned.

Also avoids breaking his knees, which I count as quite desirable.

The most important thing the pedestrian did was the jump. They did a test on some car show (can't remember what it was, could be mythbusters?) that if you jump straight up, the impact is much safer. It's to do with the friction of your feet making the impact happen horizontally, ie the car pushes you forward. Where as just lifting both feet off the ground, it becomes a tumbling motion and lot less inertia is transferred, ie you stay in the same place. Also if both feet are on the ground you have the awful possibility of being dragged under the car.

There're a lot of bad, "snuff" videos out there from Russia. Though this is true for most, if not all regions. You can go find out for yourself and become horribly desensitized to all forms of sex and violence, or you can trust me on this.
