Nerdy white guy destroys in a rap battle

Skip to 1:30. A great lyricist at work here. Excellent battle.

His lines were pretty good, indeed, but definitely not just 'made up' on the spot. Can't say I really like these 'battles' though, they seem very mean spirited... I know it's better to fight with words rather than fists, but you have to wonder how many of these actually end up in a fight at some stage.

yeah most of it wasn't spontaneous. I made sure to include that in the tags, via: 'prepared content.'

and I agree, but most don't end in violence. there's a video online of one that does, and it's really horrible - but most certainly don't. it's something that anyone who has respect for and is involved with rap battles would know is not tolerated.

As I watched this several phrases erupted from my throat. Such as 'Dag!', 'Oh shit, son!', and 'Oh Snap!'.....I've never uttered any of these phrases before, and hopefully this is an isolated incident. 'Too bad no one's in the market for the heart of a bitch!'.....that was brutal....

Not that I didn't already figure it, but this video's popularity is evidence of the Sift's demographic.

I couldn't hear you from up there on your high horse..

It's not like I see rap battles between two black dudes skyrocketing to the top 15. It's like when everybody was sayin' "Ralph Macchio ('s character) was the SHIT in Crossroads!"

I was waiting for someone to point that out. The black guy was clearly spewing anti-Semetic racist bullshit. Reverse the roles, and the white guy probably would have incited a riot and ended up in the hospital. That also lends credence to his skills as a lyricist. He didn't have to stoop to that kind of level to beat them.

gwiz665says...

It's a rap battle. Let them be racist. It won't win them any awards. It's like a roast, they talk loads of "smack" too, but that's sorta the only forum you can do it and not be a dick.

I say let them have their dirty words; the real skill is to "lay down the law" without using it.

There was a time where I would have agreed with you, Gwiz. It was the time that I believed fervently that the media was merely a reflection of what it was observing. Films, books, movies, music, they are a reflection, yes, but they are more. They also comment on the culture in an effort to sway opinion and often times they reinforce the culture they observe.

I wish these stereotypes would die and never be heard again. But apparently, there are still venues where this is acceptable behavior.

gwiz665says...

@silvercord I would also prefer if the stereotypes went away and weren't used anymore, but when people use it like this it only reflects poorly on themselves, and that's why I think they should be allowed to say it as much as they like - they're only making themselves look worse.

What is "acceptable behavior" depends on the context and the individual people involved. If someone had a problem with this at a rap battle, then they are free to go somewhere else - it's not like it's thrust in the faces of the general public. Saying these things on the street would be a much different deal.

In any case, I really don't think we, as in videosift, should be removing it for its words - it doesn't reflect poorly on us, only the rapper saying them.

If the white dude had been rapping stereotypical drivel regarding African Americans this video would have been discussed and discarded in a heartbeat. Just sayin'.

Oh boy, you need to distinguish. Simply put: There were Jewish slave owners. There were no black Nazis. So yeah, there's a difference. Besides, I bet in a room filled with southern Rednecks the white rapper would get away with alot more than the black one.

blankfistsays...

My two cents: I think the only videos that shouldn't have a home here are 1) snuff videos that aren't newsworthy (re: JFK assassination), 2) spam and 3) Olbermann news clips. That's pretty much it. All others may stay.

KnivesOutsays...

If you have the stomach for it, there are other Soul Khan videos on youtube (a shitload actually) and they are all like this.

His opponents invariably resort to antisemitic vitriol, overt and covert threats. He responds with cleverness and wit. If you pay attention to the cadence and composition of his rhyming, he sounds more like a poet than a rapper. I'll bet he's got a literature degree.
