Ain't that folding problem just about scale? normally with a regular sheet of paper, the stiffness of the paper stack after 7 folds does't allow a sufficient lever to make an additional fold. Just increase the size of the sheet (as they did) or find very thin paper, and you'll be able to make as many folds as you want.

There's actually an equation to determine how many times a sheet of paper can be folded in half. It all comes down to the size of the sheet, its thickness and how it is folded.

I was thinking of using a reciprocating saw and make the world largest Paper Snowflake. Although anything with fire is nifty.
