Motorcycle Drives Off Cliff

A motorcycle tries making a turn at 40+ mph and flies straight off a cliff, sending the motorcyclist tumbling 250 feet down a ravine. Miraculously, Matthew Murray, 27, survived the crash but was unable to reach his cell phone to call for help. He bravely used everything he had left to crawl up the cliff, flagging a driver down to call 911. Rescuers told him he was lucky to be alive.

Exactly. In a different video he claimed that the steering "locked up"...um yeah, I think it's more likely he was going too fast and braked while trying to turn into the corner and quickly learned what understeer is.

Sorry, but crawling out for help is not "brave".

Bravery is putting yourself at risk to help other people. Putting yourself through pain in order to survive is mere survival instinct. Most times, bravery is the opposite of survival instinct. People who run up to burning cars to help the occupants out are brave. Soldiers who storm machine gun nests are brave.

That word has been so watered down by the contemporary American need for "heroes" it's becoming meaningless.

was it brave for him to drive his motorcycle over a cliff at 65?

was it a heroic act for that kid to help the old guy down the escalator? personally I thought that one was borderline racist

The MSF courses all tell you that you need to never enter a corner going too fast. You can speed up a bit or maintain, but having to use the brakes in a corner means you're splitting your traction between cornering forces and deceleration. Also, using the front brake makes the bike want to straighten back up from a lean.

This guy dropped his speed by 30mph from when he entered the corner to when he went off the pavement. I don't believe him when he claims that his steering locked up.

"After this near death experience he says he'll never get on another motorcycle."

The motorcycle isn't what almost killed him, driving like an ass did.
