Highway Built around House in China

Homeowners Luo Baogen and his wife refused to leave their house to make way for a new road in Wenling, China, claiming that the relocation compensation offered by the government would not be enough to cover their rebuilding costs.

Unlike the old days when they would simply move them out by force, the new Chinese laws make it illegal to demolish private property by force without an agreement. But that did not stop the local government from building a road around their home… (dailypicks)

Well, it doesn't necessarily look like they built the road around the house. Cant wait to see what the road sign looks like.

Can't say that I'm a civil engineer (or even have any respect for civil engineers), so I wouldn't know, but couldn't they have just moved the road 50 meters one way or the other?

Anyways, a parking lot off to the side, some pedestrian bridges, and they have a prime location for a rest area or truck stop.

So the red Chinese have more respect for property than US governments? Why doesn't this surprise me.

0:02-0:05 looks like one of his neighbours didn't want to move either. Building is 4-5 feet into the road.
