Here We Go Again...Rodney King Style Beating In SF

US. San Francisco, CA - The Alameda County sheriff launched an investigation Friday after a video showing two deputies tackling and beating a man on the ground in San Francisco’s Mission District went public, raising questions whether there was an excessive use of force.

The San Francisco Public Defender’s office released the video Friday night after witnesses to the arrest contacted them with concerns. Public Defender Jeff Adachi said the two deputies clearly used excessive force in an encounter that was “reminiscent of Rodney King.”

The video shows the deputies chasing after a man at the corner of Clinton Park and Stevenson Street at about 2:05 a.m. Thursday. One deputy jumps on the man, knocking him down, and goes on to punch him twice while he was still on the ground.

He gets off as the second deputy pulls out his baton, and uses it to strike the man on the head. The video jumps 10 seconds to both deputies using their batons on the man as he struggled on his knees and screamed for help.

The video jumps once more to show the man on his knees with his hands on his head, and one deputy pushing him to the ground so he and the other deputy could continue hitting him with their batons.

Sgt. J.D. Nelson, a spokesman for the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, said the encounter captured on video was the culmination of a 38-minute car chase from the East Bay.

38-minute car chase or not does not justify this beat down. A good thumping or two sure, but not this.

Two cops need to be charged with assault and let the brothers in the jail give them a talking to.

Screw this bleeding heart bullshit. https://www.rt.com/usa/322241-sf-cops-beating-suspect/

The criminal nearly killed two officers with his STOLEN vehicle while trying to get away. He used a vehicle as a weapon, then sped through neighborhoods, fleeing from police. What if he had killed someone, god forbid, a child? He deserved what he got. I'm tired of idiots that deserve harsh punishment getting sympathy. The police said stop. He didn't.

the fuck is going on in that country? And you guys just watch it happen and get worse by the day? Protesting is communism, huh?
I was once a huge fanboy of the USA, even defended some unbelievable shit they did, because I believed it was only for the good. I lost all my respect and love for it in just a couple of years.

I'm glad people post videos like this about my country. I would rather have everyone talking about it and making real changes from it than just ignoring it and accepting it.

It takes a lot of courage to hang out your dirty laundry for everyone to see, but sometimes that's what it takes to get clean.

The Police have a role in our justice system, and it's not determining guilt or innocence... or even the punishment. These guys over stepped their authority and should be given a trial before being punished, which is something that they didn't do for their suspect.

what ? what if he killed a child ? He didn't kill anyone - child or man, and no, even if he did he doesn't "deserve" this.

The fuck is wrong with you ?

If you are a cop in an extended high speed chase after a guy in a stolen car and then you catch him, I can see where the adrenaline will push you over the edge. It doesn't excuse the behavior, but I have trouble falling asleep after 30 minutes of playing Battlefront I'm so amp'd up. I can't imagine being in their shoes.

Also, this isn't Rodney King. Rodney King was dragged out of his car and beaten for being black. This man ran from the cops in a stolen vehicle and almost killed 2 of them. Whether the color of his skin came into play we can only speculate and review the record of the officers involved. My suspicion however is that if he had been white he would have gotten about 1/2 the beating he took.
Either way, the officers involved were wrong. They are not judge and jury. Seems like some cops in this country have forgotten that. But there are still a lot of good ones.

Looks like he won't be able to use his fingers again because they literally pulverized his joints in both arms. And we haven't even found out what sort of brain damage he might have sustained yet.

All on someone who had already surrendered.

I agree. Nothing like King there. And also they will be charged, lose their pensions (if applicable), never serve in a public spot of trust, etc. What did King's abusers get? Oh yeah...

Yeah, remember 200 years ago when blacks were beaten as slaves? Obviously nothing has changed except...oh wait, they are now prosecuting obvious cases, unlike before (Of course they can always do a better job of prosecuting...but yeah, these two ducks are fucked...the problem is people with issues don't know times have changed...)

The tried and trued American justice system!!! Remember Rodney King? They will not be convicted of harsh force.

Screw your 'he deserved what he got' attitude. The police are not judge, jury, and executioner. It's their job to stop criminals and collect evidence...period. If they can't do that job without resorting to ACTUALLY nearly brutally killing compliant people, they shouldn't be cops, they should be cons.

Hitting the cop car is not "nearly killed two officers", they apparently weren't injured enough to require treatment, hardly "nearly killed" in my book.

"What if" arguments are the bastion of people who can't make an argument with the facts, so they feel the need to create new 'facts' to rail against, IMO....but OK, I'll play along...What if this video didn't exist? I suggest that the officers wouldn't even go on paid leave, the action that's been takes thus far...sending them on paid vacation.
How does one get THAT deal, screw up royally and criminally at your job in a way that's likely to cost your 'business' millions in damages, they'll stand by you and pay for vacation for a few months while they 'look into it'. WHAT?!?

If this is the treatment one can expect when criminals DO stop, as he clearly did at the beginning of the video, why on earth would anyone not continue to run like their life depends on it, which it nearly did in this case? That's not at all reasonable.

This stuff has always been going on. The problem is that you can now see it 24/7 and it's emotional so it moves to the front page ALL THE TIME. The actual truth is far more boring.
I also wouldn't say it's getting worse. The one advantage of these things being out there in our face constantly is that the public outrage tends to get things changed. If it doesn't change, you get something like Ferguson.
Some people complain about protesters, others join them. But as long as they peacefully assemble, then it is their right and protected. Our local, state and federal governments have consistently stood by that right.
All in all I think you'd be hard pressed to find a country that really does want to do good as much as we do. Now some people here have a weird hardcore idea of what good is, and we do have a fair share of stoopid, but we have a lot of good too. Plenty of videos out there showing that side as well. In fact the same city where this beating happened turned itself into Gotham and gave a Batman parade for a dying child. http://batkidbegins.com/
So there's that...
