probiesays...I'm liking this trend of smarter sci-fi hitting the screens. Keep it up, Hollywood!
Fantomassays...Looks very interesting. I just hope they didn't give away too much in the trailer, as Hollywood is wont to do.
9547bissays..."Looks like a great SF movie that focuses more on the science than the special effects. This is the one I'm waiting for."
With Copley, Wu, and Cordero on board, I hope you're right, because that trailer is pretty terrible. Ugly DV image, awful dialogue, there's not much to be worked up about.
PHJFsays...Weren't we told to attempt no landings on Europa?
deathcowsays...Haven't these suckers been told that Europa orbits within the massive radiation belts of Jupiter?

The ice provides the shielding for the sea life which are geothermally warm from the massive tectonic activity from being so close to Jupiter ... Or something.
Haven't these suckers been told that Europa orbits within the massive radiation belts of Jupiter?
Paybacksays...Didn't we already see this plot in Apollo 18?
brycewi19says...It seems to me that these type of scifi flicks often contain an element of horror, too.
I am not a big fan of this.
I understand that any good story must have conflict. But not all conflict has to be "the big bad scary monster". Sometimes it can be internal. Sometimes it can simply be the fear of the unknown.
I want to see a good, solid space movie that encompasses wonder and the element of fear without using it as an excuse to use to dip in to the horror genre.
Maybe I'll just watch 2001: A Space Odyssey again.
ChaosEnginesays...I agree. I thought this was looking great and then they went underwater and.... gee I wonder how this will turn out? Oh look, exactly what I expected.
Now, maybe we're wrong. Maybe this is some epic misdirection and it'll turn out really interesting, but I'm not hopeful.
and @dag, why do you say it "focuses more on the science than the special effects"? I can't say I saw a lot of science there.

rebuildersays...Maybe one that physically manifests the hopes and fears of the humans close to it...

newtboysays...The monolith(s) told us clearly....
"ALL THESE WORLDS ARE YOURS -- EXCEPT EUROPA. ATTEMPT NO LANDINGS THERE."
It looks like maybe they should have listened!

I suppose I'm also basing it on the extra info provided in this review http://io9.com/europa-report-at-last-a-space-thriller-worth-taking-s-493192948
