they're all deer. doe is girl. buck is boy.

Doe, a deer, a female deer!

I really liked the way the deer was able to EASILY out-dodge the dog. I mean my dog out dodges me like a pro dodgeball player, but even the dog got sold a dummy. Shows our relative positions on the food chain really. I guess some of us just don't need to dodge that well.

Unfortunately for deer they can't match a dog's endurance. A healthy dog can run for hours without stopping; a deer will collapse from exhaustion in far less time, possibly even suffering a heart attack. They're too high-strung.

In NY at least, if you see a dog running down deer in the woods, you're supposed to shoot the dog. They will chase deer down for fun and a few dogs can wreak havoc on a much larger deer population if they're allowed to.

This is a great video of our dog, Buddy, and a rescued baby deer. They were just playing together when this video was taken. As the deer (a buck) got bigger, he went to live on his own in the woods, but still comes back to visit our dog and cats and us every now and then. I'm sure we will eventually not see him any more, but it's nice to know that we saved him from death. When he was first found, he was dehydrated and near death on a 100+ degree summer day in Texas. After treating him for deydration and bottle feeding him daily, he eventually became strong enough to live on his own. We caught the little deer and our dog playing with the soccer ball on a few occassions before this particular day. We had to film this, as they were having so much fun running around together. Our dog loved this deer and the deer loved the dog. We often found them laying next to each other on our front porch when we awakened in the morning. Please know that the buck has now gone on to live in the wooded areas in the hill country around us. He seems right at home there. Enjoy!!!!

That is very cute, though I'd be afraid of the doggie getting concussed though if it were mine.

I'm really relieved to hear it wasn't just a baby deer that wandered into someone's yard and was trapped when they closed the gate. Still, it's hard to tell if it's really playing, or actually frightened and trying to defend it's self in an enclosed space.
