newtboyI'm just burning, doing the neutron dance.......
SagemindI just see a bunch of people (police and citizens) standing around.
Context? What's going on. I don't see or hear anything wrong.
There may be, but this video doesn't tell us anything.
They aren't hiding. Were there arrests made? The lights are flashing so pretty much what I'm seeing isn't a secret.
Bait cars / trucks are used everywhere.
There's nothing wrong with it.
In my opinion, it's close to entrapment - but it's NOT.
These tactics are used where I am from as well, usually in mall parking lots to see if someone will break in and steal from parked cars.
Thieves will break in and steal - that's it.
If they do, they should be charged. If they aren't breaking in, then no big deal - right?
SagemindFrom YouTube:
"One Man could be heard asking the Officers, "Would you do this in your neighborhood?" There was no answer for his question. "
YES, they do this in my community!! And I encourage it.
Kinda separates the innocent people from the not-so innocent.
I'd rather they find out who's been doing the stealing before my stuff is stolen. It's very rare they find the stolen goods even once they catch the thieves - the loot is long gone. So catch them using bait, rather than waiting till real people are robbed and violated.
C-noteResource management within the police department shows a priority is locking up as many people as possible.
It's like leaving donuts everywhere to justify the expense of hiring an exterminator cause you got ants.

Jinxsays...Ye, but if there were shootings and stabbings in your neighbourhood then wat?
Not gonna dispute the legality of it, or that stealing shoes from a truck is a crime, but... to borrow from The Wire, its like searching the kids standing on the corners. You'll like get arrests, but you won't be doing much to actually reduce crime or improve the community.

MordhausYou ain't gonna believe this, the truck just stopped. It just stopped! You got some jumper cables or something, give me a jump?

radxYou never know. Today, these kids in a neighborhood with a 40%+ poverty rate steal some Nikes, tomorrow they sell you mortgage-backed securities or run a gulag for the Chicago PD. It's a slippery slope, boyos.
BSRJust park a car with laxative laden donuts in a NO PARKING zone near the police station. It's all about the bait.
SagemindI can't help but agree that the Jail systems in the US are a HUGE problem!! Jails should NEVER be a for profit business.
Hitting quotas for prisoners is the most disgusting thing I can think of when it comes to crime.
I guess, the biggest question here is the reasoning behind the Sting operation. Is this to fight a car robbery streak, or is this to fill quotas. That's a good thing the public should be asking - because that matters, and makes a huge difference.
siftbotMoving this video to C-note's personal queue. It failed to receive enough votes to get sifted up to the front page within 2 days.
