southblvdsays...I had this on the C64. LoveChess is another alternative.
MrFisksays...*geek
siftbotsays...Adding video to channels (Geek) - requested by MrFisk.
sirexsays...had this on amiga, was great, had to keep swapping disks though.
dystopianfuturetodaysays...Anyone remember the game 'Archon'? It was kind of like battle chess, but the players would actually control the battle on another screen. The higher value the piece, the stronger they would be, and damage would carry over from one battle to the next.
I'd love to see a 2-4 player update of this classic game concept.
visionepsays...I remember Archon on my TRS-80 CoCo III. That game was fantastic!
davidrainesays...We had Archon for the Commodore 64 when I was growing up... And Adept, the sequel. Adept was more versatile, but in the end I think Archon was the more solid game. That was a classic!
maximilliansays...Archon on the C64 was fun. The health of a piece during a battle also mattered on the color square that they were on, which also varied from turn-to-turn. Then the wizards had limited spells they could use. It was one of my favorite games.
Edeotsays...One of the features of the game is you will have a full grown beard by the time you've finished just one match.
dystopianfuturetodaysays...I'd like a version where instead of battle, they'd make passionate love. There is no price too high for a game that allows me to watch a horse sex up a bishop.
StukaFoxsays...Someone can't play chess for shit!
ForgedRealitysays...The version I remember was on PC, and it was better because it was VGA, and it could DO things while sounds were playing. None of this take one step, play a sound, take another step once sound is finished crap. But then I don't remember the sounds being quite like this either. It was still better on IBM-PC. *nostalgia anyway. *sniff*
brycewi19says...Why the F**K would you give up your queen that easily!!!
It's not the animation that's painful to watch. It's the chess moves!!!
Sketchsays...What part of "non-playable demo" did you not understand?

The demo was ment to show off the animations not the chess skill.
entr0pysays...dystopianfuture, that was done a few years back, it's not quite as awesome as you might imagine. http://www.lovechess.com/

Goddamn furries!!!
cyberscythesays...If I recall correctly, the bishop had a switchblade in his staff.
Good times.
Memoraresays...God, 20 years ago...
I was doing some contract programming for Interplay at the time, porting C64 Neuromancer to the Amiga, when ceo Brian Fargo called me over and said "Hey take a look at this", and showed me the pre-release Battle Chess. I went "OOOOOH!" He said "yeah, that's the reaction we're going for!"
Too bad all those low/mid level coding jobs are no longer available in this country, was a great way to earn a living.
jmdsays...I had this game... was nice how it played both in vga, and also on my crappy tandy laptop that was CGA.
Biggest problem though was as you can see, the game moves slowly, and the fault of that is the sound code. The game has to pause every time it plays a sound. If you mute it, the game finishes in half the time.
