Any proof the document is fake? Aside from what seems to be silence on the other side and/or attempting to change the subject away from the memos source. Hard to hear with everyone talking over each other.

Proof that it's fake? Shouldn't proof that it's real be what's needed? Or should all pieces of paper be assumed to come from the democratic leadership until proven otherwise?

Absolutely.

If the GOP guy can't legitimise the basis for his complaint, then his complaint has no standing.

Let's face it, if the Republican had a verified source for the doco there is no reason not to disclose it. It proves his case even more.

Burden of proof is on the one wielding and quoting the document, not the one asking for sources. Anybody who has passed high school English should know about citing sources.>> ^RadHazG:

I am rather curious how Weiner was so sure this document was a fake. I doubt he has memorized every memo released. If he made such an accusation based solely on the claimed content, he was taking a bit of a gamble. There's always someone stupid enough to write down an erroneous statement.

If he was "guessing" about this so quickly and so forcefully, it rather implies that this has been a somewhat commonly used tactic.

I wonder what the effect would be if lying about factual matters led to jail-time even for congressmen while in congress. Not that we'll ever see it, but I have to wonder...
