Why then would the one dressed in silver be holding her hair like that 1:40-2:00?
siftbotsays...This video has been removed from all channels (Worldaffairs, Music, Cute, Teens) due to invalid channel assignment - nochannel invoked by EDD. Please review the FAQ to learn about appropriate channel assignments.

I like the fact that when the money gets thrown onto the stage, they actually have to move, since doing what they where doing on a now loose surface, would have meant that this video ended up on break rather than youtube.
alizarinsays...Can anybody explain why they are dressed non-conservatively (no hijab or whatever)... is this an arab wedding in the west or do the rules lax this much at family functions like weddings?
MaxWildersays...^I'm gonna guess it's because the Arab world is very large, and only a few places actually mandate the traditional dress codes. We're seeing a lot of the repressive side of the Arab traditions in the last few years, but that doesn't mean they all live that way. Far from it. That would be like looking at Utah and thinking that all westerners practice Mormon traditions, when in fact only a small percentage lives that way.

So you're saying that only a small percentage of Arabs live by the Islam traditions (hijab)?
MaxWildersays...I have no idea what the percentage is, but I know plenty of Arab-Americans who wear western dress while following other old traditions, and I've seen video of people in various middle eastern countries wearing what we would consider to be normal clothes. I'm not claiming to be an expert by any means, I'm just saying I've seen plenty of them dressed just like the average westerner.

All the tables are empty so this is definitely a rehearsal, if it's even for a wedding. Also, the attire doesn't match an Islamic wedding - even if the family wasn't conservative, traditional clothes would almost definitely be worn.
A burqa is worn when a woman leaves the home, so it may not be required in a closed indoor setting.
dw1117says...I just hope one day in the near future I can watch a video from a phone that doesn't seem as though it's been smeared against someones ass.
Throbbinsays...Nice enough dance, but whats amazing about it?
You wanna see amazing? I'll get you a video of a square dance back home, where it's rocking so hard that there is actually a cloud of condensed sweat in the gymnasium, and you can feel it collecting on your skin. Now THAT's amazing!
blankfistsays...Two girls holding hands, dancing, having money thrown at them.... Hmmm. Are we sure this is a wedding?

Nobody said they were Muslims.
The info on youtube says "Two girls in a discotheque in Syria". Not sure why Farhad thinks this is a wedding but I'm not saying he's wrong, either. He probably knows the culture better than most of us.
xxovercastxxsays...*happy is probably appropriate here

Ewwwwww.
dannym3141says...Completely unimpressive
Ornthoronsays...^Why does everything have to be so frogging impressive? Can't you just enjoy a small glimpse into a different culture?
Lolthiensays...Actually Arabs are descended from nomads and relatively non-religious tribal groups. The Islamic tradition in the Arabic world is quite new compared to the total history of their culture. Much like Christians still have Christmas Trees, Easter bunnies and celebrate Halloween, it can be very difficult to completely supplant traditional behaviour simply with a pure religious doctrine. There are many Arab traditions that have been accepted into Muslim culture and vice versa.
joedirtsays...This looked so lame. I can barely dubke and I think this sucked bad. Also, this didn't look like a wedding cause there was almost no people and only three people dancing. It was probably some horrible entertainment some princess wanted.
joedirtsays...Longest Dabke In The World - Akka Palestine
pipp3355says...i don't get it. search for 'dance' on the sift and you'll find some great dancing.. this is just.. girls dancing with their friends.. to eastern sounding music.. so what?
pho3n1xsays...i upvoted cause it's neat to watch, though it's no certainly no david elsewhere... still fun tho.
Farhad2000says...Oh wow, the comments here are hilarious.
I said it's a wedding because I have seen things like this at a wedding, Dabke is usually performed at weddings.
The empty tables and so on is natural, usually weddings last until 5 am and most people leave while the core family stays to celebrate further. I had to stay at a wedding till 4 am once filming. It got crazier the less people were there.
And jesus please stop homogenizing all arabs into neat lil' Islamic boxes you developed watching Fox News.
