ARRESTED FOR ANTI-OBAMA POSTS

People across America are getting arrested for non-violent Facebook posts.

This is disgusting. Even the lawyer was exaggerating that it's a "common occurrence" with veterans, just having one person go through it is despicable.

Fairbssays...

I think there is a lot missing. They present what happened, but they don't say what the comments were. They also have the defense side represented, but nothing from the police. It's not even clear what the charges are. Anyway something seems a bit fishy here to me or at a minimum contrived. I don't think veterans should be persecuted as a group nor any other type of group for that matter. I'm not convinced by this video that they are.

newtboysays...

I noted he's a veteran but his attorney actually said there's no evidence he ever owned a firearm...um...WHAT?!?
I must agree with @Fairbs, without the actual comments and charges this is an inflammatory fluff piece with little actual information.

Januarisays...

You have to REALLY want to believe everything this 'piece' is reporting, to not even question why they aren't saying what he posted.

A bit contrived is an understatement. Honestly try finding a single article on RT News that isn't pro-Putin or anti-western, particularly anti-US. For those that want to believe this, it will be taken as fact. But you have to really want it!

chingalerasays...

So what the comments so far here resemble may be perhaps an example of a sense of doubt based-upon a lifetime of a steady diet of a formulaic and programmed expectation of how reporting should be rendered in order to feed a denial of common-sense equity, and civil liberties being shat upon, then digested, and fed back disguised as a healthy sustenance?

Perhaps if Brian Williams raps it out you can all continue to swallow cheeseburgers after voting in the next major election of cunts who'll straighten-out the foul injustice of unprofessional journalism...

oritteroposays...

If there was any truth at all to this man's assertions, why wouldn't they have arrested him too rather than letting him conduct this type of interview? Traditionally the arrests should happen at 3am rather than during daylight.

Yogisaid:

I see no citation of sources anywhere. Russia Today has already proven they cannot be trusted, let's get someone in print please.

Vygoroussays...

Just to contribute a little bit (I am neither here nor there). Here is something on the piece outside of Russian Times, not much more credible, however has some quotes from the police:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/21/brandon-j-raub-marine-detained_n_1817484.html EDIT: Guess I cant post links on this site heh, Huffingtonpost is the site, guys name is Brandon J. Raub [admin edit: url restored]

Article Snippets:

•"In one message earlier this month according to authorities, Raub wrote: "Sharpen my axe; I'm here to sever heads.""

•"Police – acting under a state law that allows emergency, temporary psychiatric commitments upon the recommendation of a mental health professional"

•"One of his Facebook posts, ... pictured the gaping hole in the Pentagon and asked "where's the plane?""

•"Dee Rybiski, an FBI spokeswoman in Richmond, said there was no Facebook snooping by her agency. "We received quite a few complaints about what were perceived as threatening posts," she said. "Given the circumstances with the things that have gone on in the country with some of these mass shootings, it would be horrible for law enforcement not to pay attention to complaints.""

•"Authorities say it wasn't an arrest because Raub doesn't face criminal charges."

•"Col. Thierry Dupuis, the county police chief, said Raub was taken into custody upon the recommendation of mental health crisis intervention workers. He said the action was taken under the state's emergency custody statute, which allows a magistrate to order the civil detention and psychiatric evaluation of a person who is considered potentially dangerous.
He said Raub was handcuffed because he resisted officers' attempts to take him into custody."

Santas' real if you make him real.

reality: a construct of one's own insanity-What's 'real', eh Yogi?

Yogisaid:

Get a clue? Santa Claus isn't real either, and you shouldn't trust someone who just says thing without verifying them you dummy.

newtboysays...

You seem to be implying that this somehow makes it less of a threat. I disagree, simply quoting another persons threat does not make the statement un-threatening.
I'm still flabbergasted by the "no evidence he ever owned a gun" comment...he's a veteran, so he defiantly owned a gun (while on active duty if not afterwards).

moduloussaid:

He posted the 'sharpen up my axe' comment in quotes and posted a link to a youtube video to the piece of music it was from.

Sorry, but regardless of whether this story turns out to be accurate or not, @Yogi's stance is completely valid.

One of the major problems in the world now is people who believe things without questioning them. News reports should have to provide evidence, cite sources, etc. If you make a scientific claim in an advertisement, I want to see a peer reviewed study that backs it up.

chingalerasaid:

Let's get a clue, please.

Enlistees are 'issued' firearms (no ownership) there, newtboy.

Intelligence-fucking-itself uses sophistic argument and deliberately obtuse verbiage and observation to render a portrait of perceived events to suit a comfortable take on collective events, sometimes forcing the same upon others in a relatively fascist and self-destructive form of delusional, self-preservation...other-times hollering it from a street-corner with an i.p.address instead of a familiar sign.

Raub may be doing something similar, perhaps even his attorney suing the A-list of federal organizations is as off-his-nut. Doubt it though when apparently the social implementation of theory is running amok in the opposite direction...

Your perfect-world news-report fantasy works fine in theory, does it?..'peer reviewed' till the cattle are housed in mandatory temporary-to-permanent dirt-floor & barbed-wire accommodations CE??....Maybe your own verbal ticks will develop into a similar, "well, very specifically" when you are NOT being arrested lawfully and tossed into an asylum where a company doctor can render you insane, deprogram you, and use you as an 'example' of what one can or can't say on Facebook?

Forest-for-the-trees lackeys are a dime-a-dozen at a peer-reviewed fantasy camp on the outskirts of (insert city or town near you in the future you've helped to create).

You are already on planet police-state, keep up the fine work and pour-through those tomes of toilet paper and perhaps hone your own 'axe' (a fucking metaphor for reason or wisdom, the kind that cuts both ways....HELLO?!)

How bout an interview?

Ching, I get that you and reality have, at best, a slightly strained relationship, but try to stay with me here.

I'm not saying that anyone should be arrested for saying shit on Facebook (obvious caveats of direct threats, etc).

I'm simply saying that @Yogi is right to ask for evidence.

I would have thought that you of all people would appreciate the value in "don't take everything at face value"

WHAT?!? You expected rational acceptance of a reasonable statement, even a statement he's made repeatedly himself? You really haven't been paying attention, have you?

Again and again with the false sarcasm....Who is this charlatan anyway with a personal hard-on for anyone who doesn't suck his dick?? Transparent bullshit and you want to force me into a goddamn corner?? Fuck that shit.

"Pretentious polemics and entitled self-interest, isle 13-This week only, two-for-one asshole with your purchase of one or more king-sized-tow-sacks of adult garments ."

About as rational you are as Chipotleaway...
