Whenever Videosift 4.3 rolls around...

...can we get the ability to block certain members from leaving profile comments? I don't mean like hobbling does, I mean an individual blacklist, so each of us could block specific people from sending PMs.

It seems like there's always some dick here who lacks the maturity to handle a downvote. It's really not worth it to suspend or ban these spoiled little children; after all, they've got to learn to handle criticism eventually; but I'd prefer to avoid the harassment, no matter how insignificant it is.

I agree, if you put a person on ignore you should not have the ablility to click on the link that leads you to what the ignored person says.

if you put someone on ignore, you flat out should not be subject to what that fucktard says ?

ammiright ?

even if that said fucktards field of harrasment is only encroached upon by subjecting yourself to it !

There's barely any downvoting going on. I mostly stopped downvoting after the umpteenth time the owner of the particular video took it personal, demanded an explanation or downright insulted me without even wanting an explanation. I wish at least downvotes could be anonymous. It's really nobodys business what you vote on. Wanna tell someone? Do it in the comments.

I disagree with your solution, but I recognize the same problems you do.

I actually think downvoting serves little other purpose than to display disapproval at this point. Even heavily downvoted videos still seem to find enough support to reach 10, and I would bet it's rare to never that something goes so low as to be rejected. Is that rule even still in effect?

May as well get rid of downvoting, IMO. It's just a feelings-hurting button, and we have a lot of people with emotional issues.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

If we removed the downvote - how would we dispose of cat fart videos?

Well that system certainly doesn't seem to work anyways...

i never take a downvote personally.
thats just a waste of energy but i am curious as to a persons reasons why they may have downvoted and ask accordingly.
sometimes they respond (which is awesome btw) and other times they do not.
in either case my life is not changed nor do i become emotionally attached to the outcome.

camp downvoted a video of mine over a year ago and responded to my query, very gracious of him and it gave me insight to why he disliked the video and we got to discuss a bit about it.
thats a win-win in my book.

the people here at the sift all sift according to their own desires and objectives and they are as diverse as they are unknown to most of us.
i prefer not to assume and would rather ask that person directly, not to be confrontational but rather to understand.
speaking only for myself i rarely downvote,i just refrain from voting and i am a prolific voter.

but thats me.

I usually put a comment if I down-vote.

It's like being on the Gong Show sometimes and some things just need the gong!

Sometimes you get a video you want to gong but the articulation as to "why" isn't worth it so I don't gong them (even though I want to). I don't downvote things that I feel need to be gonged if I can't come up with a good reason.

Gongzo!

I used to do the same but people got pissed about that, too. I was once told (paraphrasing) to downvote if I must but shut up about it.
