We should be able to remove a post from main Sift Talk

I'd like to see some stricter enforcing of what Talk posts are allowed on the primary Sift Talk page. IMHO this space should be reserved for discussion concerning the Sift itself, as has been an unwritten rule for as long as I can remember. Talk about other stuff should also be encouraged, but it should be contained to the appropriate channels. (The FAQ is kind of unclear on this)

Gold Star members and above already have the ability to remove videos and talk posts from inappropriately assigned channels using the *nochannel invocation, so why not extend this to also include removal from primary Sift Talk? It could either be baked into the *nochannel invocation or be given its own invocation. One just has to remember to add at least one channel invocation in addition, or the post won't be listed anywhere.

Somewhat related: As VideoSift grows in size, we might want to consider adding some better forum functionality. I'm not sure how much it's really needed, but it's something that should at least be thought over.

I agree with you in theory, but a lot of long-time members, who I have to assume know what the main sift talk page is supposed to be for, still post random stuff on the main page. I'd feel pretty douchey and rule-nazi-esque actually removing a post from the front page, but that's just me.

Not that I disagree at all -- the front page should just be for sift-related business and congratulations and whatnot, but I'd feel weird actually enforcing it.

I agree. We need to set some clearer guidelines on Sift Talks. We've kind of let things slide and this has become a bit bloggy on the front page, which is not the intention.
