Well- we think that the people who are more likely to be interested in contributing would be Sift Talk goers. If we find it's not working we may put it out there- but we don't have a lot of room.

Well we don't actually buy it- this will give us about 3 months for the box on the rack, including bandwidth. We're with a small but hot hosting company called Johncompanies.com

They don't do a lot of handholding- but are great if you semi-know your way around a Linux box.

If you ever wanted to comparison shop, dag, there's a great company here in Culver City called Media Temple that has a pretty sharp shared grid server though you'd probably be happier with your own box (http://mediatemple.net/). I've used them for some time now, and I couldn't be happier. They're a great group of smart guys.

I have heard good things about Media Temple. We shopped around quite a bit a few months ago when we made a move from out old servers- we like that we are with the "small but great" guys.

Can we get a thermometer-style funds gauge somewhere so the community knows what we need to contribute or what our goal is and how close we are to achieving it? It probably updates at different times based on your geography- as it'll be coming from a few different servers.

I was thinking this would take a month to reach our goal. Considering we're at 30% already - I've wildly underestimated Sifter support.

In all honesty, I had someone rip into my paypal, insurance and a threatened lawsuit recovered my damages. But is there really no other way to pay? I know VS will not release my information but I really don't care to invest so much information with paypal again.
