Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama deads

I have deaded several hundred vids in the last couple days, mostly from the shows in the title. I realize some of you posted more of those vids than others, but I just want to let everyone know it wasn't out of spite, malice, or vindictiveness. If you are pissed, please feel free to go through my posts and "dead" away (although someone already beat you to it). Keep in mind you can fix them at any time. If you do, you keep the points. If you don't, vid goes to the deadpool and you can still fix it. If someone else fixes it for you, you still keep the points. No reason to get mad.

I did notice that almost all of the dead Simpsons, FG, and Futurama vids were from YT. Almost all of the non-YT vids are still good, so you may want to look to another host when fixing.

I hope nobody's given you a hard time. You're doing the Sift a service, by ensuring the content is available. It would be unreasonable to be angry at you.

I don't like having a bunch of dead videos, but it clearly isn't your fault Fletch. I'd much rather see a clean sift so thanks for taking the time to go through and clean 'em up. I've done similar things with Colbert and Daily Show Clips in the past as well.

You've made a good service, I was too lazy to do that.

BTW now that there's the simpsons movie on air, I'd wait before fixing them. Too an unstable situation.

firefly says...

DAMN YOU, FLETCH! DAAAAAAAMNNNN YOOOOOOOOOOOU!

Seriously, though, it's no surprise. When I saw Marine's post about the dead links I figured this would happen soon enough...

Like I said, a few people had more of these types of vids deaded than others. I didn't want anyone to think I was singling them out or anything. I just did searches for the particular shows. After reading choggie's post about Comedy Central, I checked out the Fox stuff and noticed most of them were dead.

(And thanks for the Q, joe!)

lol @ every post

fletch, i really hope you're not saying someone is shooting the messenger here, i hope nobody said anything bad to you for doing a good job.

Hey, remember me. Over here. I remember a time when it wasnt cool to dead videos. Now everybodys doing it. Just to let yall know my total sweep of the entire sift(finished as of last week) 1500-2000 dead.

Fletch says...

No one is giving me any guff. Just wanted those affected to know it wasn't personal, which some might think a reasonable conclusion to jump to given my occasional past PC-lessness.

And eric, I'd throw you some Sifter Bucks if I had any. We all know and appreciate how much you contribute, in both high-quality vids and VS maintenance. Quite frankly, with VS 3.0, it's now just much easier and faster to check lots of vids. Hopefully, you'll get more help now.

Gotta clear the chaff to get to the wheat. I too find myself trying to clear some when I stumble across one. I've noticed that Monty Python vidys tend to die too.

No one is giving me any guff.

I'd be happy to if you're feeling disappointed. After all, why should anyone miss out on the occasional abuse?

Fletch, I've seen better pieces of shit in a litterbox. You're nothing but an insignificant little twit self-absorbed in his own meaningless, petty deading abilities. As soon as time travel is invented, I'm going back to abort you, before returning to the present and collecting my Nobel prize for doing so. I'd like to punch you straight in your ovaries, you woman.

Also, you smell bad.

Well, there you have it. No need to thank me.

Oh, and Eric, go eat a dick.

Yeah, I have a flood of sift e-mail. I usually get a few a day, but got nailed recently. As the Woohoo channel proprietor, it didn't particularly surprise me.

I'm not upset with you at all. As an owner of ALL the Simpsons DVDs and someone who's seen the movie twice, I am more than a little bit annoyed with Fox Twats, but I'm not surprised either.

They're embracing a narrow-minded hold on copyright which, although partly their fault for being jackasses, if also a general by-product of the system, where if they don't act like jerks, they lose all control.

There really needs to be a "fair use" provision or something built into the internet, though. This stinking grey area annoys me.

Also, I haven't been something too much yellow-skinned stuff lately, perhaps (definitely?) partly for this reason.

choggie says...

by the way...Thank God for Fletch, and his mission of destruction...Family Guy has always pissed me off-as well as most posts from CS...the best Simpsons clips came from the poster's titles, and for fuck-sake, we should *ban together, against the efforts of Comedy Centrals, illusion of proprietary bullshit stance on their embeds.....

I say, we all post the hell outta the ones returning, and give the little payroll Nazis something to earn their keep for.....(make sure to include personal messages, to the worker ant cogs, employed by the network to disable the embeds.....treat em like bill collectors or lawyers...

MINK says...

isn't it possible for siftbot to dead things automatically somehow? i mean i'm sure you've thought of that but i just thought i'd ask, seems a silly job for a human to have to do, click... wait for data... dead if no data...

looris says...

mostly@Krupo.

Well... on principles, I tend to agree with you. But in this particular case... The Simpson has been on bad waters for years, and this youtube-clips thing give them some new life. But since the show itself isn't so appreciated, this new awareness caused by the Internet, wouldn't likely convert to more people watching the show on tv or dvd.

This goes different for many things. Family Guy has got very funny clips, but if you like the single clips, you'll almost certanly like the show itself too, so removing them is dumb: they are free advertisements, mostly!

What really pissed me off A LOT about Fox, is that they removed ANYTHING that was related to their shows, even things that were clearly edits, parodies, and so on. If they remove a clip directly taken from one of their episodes, I can understand that, but they shouldn't ever dare to remove mashups and things like that. And trailers too. How you dare claim ownership over a... TRAILER? It's advertisement, damn you!

Ok, calm down, calm down...
