Playlist Round-up: Post your favorite playlists

The most under utilized and possible the strongest hidden gem feature of the Sift is the playlists people have put together. Since there are too many to wade through, I often don't use them much. It is also a good time to revisit these (vs. Collectives) because I imagine VS_3.0_beta will be similar to playlists, but more useful like collectives.

Here is your chance to post any playlist you are particularly proud of, or any that you have come across that you like.

Here's just a few, I can update with posting from your comments.

My "Tesla coil music videos"

rickegee's massive "This One Made Me Happy Today"

gorillaman's #1 most viewed "British Comedy"

Dag's red wine inspired "87 high school reunion"

Aside from that, playlists are used by many folks for administrative task or to save videos for later.

Swampgirl's "Sift Newbies in Need"

djsunkid's "My favourite ant downvotes"

I am also a playlist junkie... I'm up to 18 of my own now... I guess its my OCD streak... I just have to organize sometimes, especially in the wee hours of the morning when I can't sleep and my mind is all cranked up from too much classwork... there's nothing so theraputic as organizing data at times like that

I think out of my own lists, my two favorites are Mess-O-Potamia & its sister-list, Vids From the Front... of all the aspects of online video culture, the impact of increased video and news media technology on wars and how we wage them just fascinates me. These lists actually started as a way for me to gather videos for one of my Classical Lit. Profs who is also interested in the subject, but they have grown a lot since then, and probably they are the ones I keep updated the most frequently.

Of other people's lists, I enjoy Farhad's Politca2007 for much of the same reasons... ya gotta keep an eye on those politicians... sneaky lil bastards, always up to no good... if it weren't for them, my two fav playlists probably wouldn't even exist!

I also highly admire Swampgirl's effort to catalogue the Sift by decade with her I Love The 80s, 70s, 60s, etc, playlists... its a massive effort, so a big round of applause for her! And people! Remember, when you select that vintage channel PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF SWAMPY, put the decade in the tags!

Choggie's new list, Primaryposts is also cool, as he is collecting everyone's very first sift... its kind of neat to see what vids got everyone out of their probationary periods.

Lists that also make me happy are Krupo's Blatant Drug References on the Sift, Choggie's Full Length Mooovies, Farhad's AllKindofAwesome (if only for the title, have always like that), and Rembar's Cool Things You Could Be Doing, which always makes me feel slightly guilty for spending all this time online making playlists .

I am also a fan of djsunkid's My Favorite Ant Downvotes

Does anyone have a few they are compiling that are private, that they are going to eventually unleash on the group??

I could name some titles of my own, but it would be an associative stretch to try to figure out the title with relation to the viddies.....

Nightmares for children is one of mine I am having some fun with, and I like Lisacat's, Sweet, Sexy, Strong, Sassy.
And don't forget to visit this post
http://www.videosift.com/talk/Your-First-Post
and divulge yer firstborn, if ya want it on the list....I am grabbing some at random to load the play list with, some folks who are weary of having their first posts on a list, can just ask and I'll remove it.....

Thanks, for the plug on the tags Raven And JD, for the newbie help. It's harder and harder to get that first star nowdays. *quality!

Don't be away much for over a week or you'll all miss too much. So much to catch up on!

As I was scrolling through the playlist(looking for my favorites), I noticed that there were 20ish playlists, all by the same sifter. All had just one video, and the title of each playlist was the same as the video in it. Assuming playlist were not intended to be used in this way I was just curious what yall thought.

yeah, I noticed the same thing eric, seems like a fairly new user, so maybe they are just starting out a bunch of lists they planning on building on... why don't you send them a message in private and see what they have to say?

I also noticed the new playlist. They were created by a brand new user, and appear to be the new siftbrarian, but it looks like they ran out of steam and many playlists are just one video. Who knows either they are probing the sift for weaknesses in the aluminum can shell, or else they could be a valuable new organizer. I'm guessing it may be weeks before they find the sift talk area

<ahref="http://www.videosift.com/playlist/raven/Vids-From-the-Front">vids from the front by raven is my favorite play list by far...

I wish I could keep Politica2007 and Allkindsofawesome updated more often

Swampy's I Love the 80s and other decade lists are a nice categorization of sifts, very handy. Although I always wonder where the "I love the 90s" and "I love the Aughts" went.
Eric's Slam Poetry / Spoken Word list is great, I always love good slam poetry.
Krupo's Controversies list speaks, IMO, very strongly of the Sift community and its ability to hold thoughtful, if sometimes heated, debate.
And my secret, shameful pleasure: Looris's So now Zoidberg is big, heh? "I'm coming DOWNNNN...."

swampgirl says...

They're coming, Rembar. I was just shopping for some aughts last night. I haven't brought myself to start 90s because to think of it as vintage is just too painful

It's been a little challenge finding sifts around here older than the 30s. If anyone know of some...please edit the tag with 1900s or 00s something like that

My favorite I think is one by Swampgirl, Sift Newbies in Need. I don't look as much as I should but I love the idea that it's there and someone is doing it. Couple of other people had lists of queue posts they thought deserved attention too, seems a good way for people of a like mind to help things they care about along.
