New Videos should search the Dead Pool

OK this was kind of a rookie move on my part. The other day I did a search for a video on the sift "Sexual Harassment and You" and did not find it. So I submitted it...turns out it was in the Dead Pool and a few days later someone fixed it and then discarded my submission as a dupe.

I know now that in the future I should use the advanced search and search for sifted and dead pool videos before submitting.

BUT...to help curb the same thing from happening over and over shouldn't siftbot also scan the dead pool for possible dupes on the last page before the submit? This would kill two birds with one stone....it would help prevent a duplicate submission and would also help fix a video in the dead pool.

The possible duplicate listing when posting a new video already includes dead and deadpool videos. The only videos it excludes are those that are discarded.

Performing a simple search should not include non-functional videos because most people aren't searching for a duplicate, but for videos to watch. You should just do a quick advanced search to include dead/deadpool videos when looking for a dupe before submitting a new video.

I think a good improvement here would be to include more than 5 possible duplicates on the confirm submission page. Because of the odd tag, I will often get completely unrelated videos showing up there.

But yeah, everyone should do at least a quick advanced search before posting. I try to remember to do this but don't always. So far, I think I've been lucky, er, fortunate.

Perhaps we could have the advanced search page come up appropriately or partly filled out during the submission process?

this is the kind of systemised improvement that i love, making it easier to sift automatically, not requiring the user to do ANYTHING that the server can do automatically, saying "hey, is this a dupe? i found these similar vids!" is much better than saying "click in the top right hand corner, do an advanced search, and check this isn't a dupe".

adding merit points to encourage good use is never as effective as improving automation in the places where bad use occurs.

it's like signs saying "PLEASE REMEMBER TO SHUT THIS DOOR"... why not just have a properly working automatic door shutting thing on there instead?

I usually do a search, so as not to waste time filling out the submission form just to find out it would have been a dupe. Maybe have the submission form be two stages, first with the embed code and title, second with description etc.?
