ISP Blocked?
I can't get on the Sift except by stealthy measures. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? It started yesterday and the Sift was very slow. Now the site won't even load. It feels like my ISP is blocking the Sift or that my ability to access is otherwise being hampered. Anyone having a solution would be heroic.

I doubt the ISP has VS on their radar. Maybe your browser has some javascript infection.
(a) try turning off javascript and seeing if that helps.
(b) try IE and see if it is your Firefox.
I access VideoSift from three computers. None of them will do it now (either on IE or Firefox). They are all on the same network, but in different locations. I turned off Java and still get this: Firefox can't find the server at www.videosift.com
It's interesting because I can go through an anonymizer type website and get here just fine. Weird.
Swampgirl was having some problems yesterday as well. It seems like some sort of localized dns issue for her. Can you access it if you go directly to the ip: 69.55.231.118
If so then that means it is a dns issue with your isp, and if this is the case could you give us some more details, like where you are located and what your isp is.
I can access through the ip 69.55.231.118 but it comes up looking very strange. Kind of like a skeleton view. I'll *private you my location and ISP.

This is strange- we're continuing to look into it. silvercord- could you try a traceroute from one of your computers and send us the output?
I'll traceroute later this evening when I get home.
Dag and James, please check your profile pages.
Sc
fixed as of 9:42pm CST. For now. Weird.

That's good news. They must have noticed that power cord they tripped over at the global DNS HQ.
I made a change yesterday (I think) so that our incoming DNS requests would also be load-balanced across our back-end servers instead of just one of them, but I forgot to start the DNS service on the other server. (Whoops!)
I turned it on at about 7:36pm PST, so that's probably why it started working again. At least, that's my theory.
Sorry for all the troubles, mates. Merry Christmas.
Lucky, thanks for all you do! Everything is up and running on this end!
Yes, thanks..I was about to have to clean my house or pick up a book or something
Here's a tip.
I recommend using OpenDNS to circumvent your ISP. One, they are faster, two they have much better caches, three they don't block sites at random.
https://www.opendns.com/start
the nameservers are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220.
just change your DNS servers in Windows Networking TCP/IP options
It's free, just make sure your ping/tracert is pretty low to get to their servers.
