Black background for energy saving / cinematic experience
As proposed in the title I'd love to have an optional (and maybe default setting for sifters that are logged in) black - instead of bright white - background to save energy + create a more cinematic experience..Other dark colours (e.g. dark grey text) would need to change as well..what do you think?

I'm all for a medium/dark background. But not black (it isn't as bad as white but is bad anyway). Medium gray with light gray text is a very elegant solution (have a look here). Elegant, and more important, gentle for the eyes.

You can change your background to black in your profile Looris. edit: - actually, never mind I saw your screen from the earlier thread.
No no! http://digg.com/offbeat_news/Five_Myths_and_Mysteries_About_Black_Web_Surfing
i liked the white, then i clicked looris' link and booom! my eyes went "ahhhhhhhhhhhh".
but i still like the white. it's clean.
but i never use white backgrounds in my own designs. my art teacher always said "NEVER USE WHITE! NEVER USE BLACK!" and it kinda stuck.

Yes, but art and things you read are different. I for one would not like a newspaper with a dark gray background.

But it does save (very little) energy..
Like the medium grey as well.
if he was talking about web design, he's perfectly right and I do 100% agree.
@dag: sure, but many people - sadly MOST people - fail to realize that paper is different from screens. White paper is great, while white screens hurt the eyes. It's different, and it really makes me mad that nobody notices or cares
I was going to post that same thing, Ant.
Use something like this to brainstorm: http://wellstyled.com/tools/colorscheme2/index-en.html
It has a little filter check at the top of it to choose "safe" web colors.
