Am I circumventing the badge system?

Often, if I find a dead video and already have a replacement ready, I will just use *backup and then replace the dead embed with the working one. This saves a lot of effort compared to *deading it and waiting two days for it to become fixable.

My question is: By doing this, am I missing out on a lot of necromancer badges? And if so, is it possible to make this unorthodox method also count towards a badge? I just looked at @kronosposeidon's profile and got jealous at all the bling.

I believe you are missing out on Necromancer badges if you provide a replacement embed before you use the *dead invocation, but I'm not really sure. I do the same thing as you, i.e., if I find a dead video but can easily find a replacement embed to fix it, then I do the *backup first then invoke *dead. But if it takes me more than a minute or so to find a replacement with Google video search, then I just tag it *dead. I don't want to break a sweat.

BTW, I think most folks here don't care about the shiny, including me. I even thought about doing a poll just to see if I'm right, but even a poll about this is not important to me. The only reason I have a Necromancer badge (as well as Super Duper, Thumb Nailer, and Time Keeper) is because I went off my meds for awhile and went completely OCD with fixing shit up here. So the fewer badges you have, the more psychologically healthy you are. I'm only half-joking.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I think you are missing out on the necromancer badge. Though I think it's fair to award it if a video is deaded and you supplied the backup. We'll try and get this into an update.
