A good Audio Editor? Suggestions please.
I just got MASSIVELY inspired to have the ability to edit and remix music.
What are programs that are popular and fairly easy to use that I would be able to edit a song and "remix " it ?
I am asking you people because I could search google and get a hundred shareware and trial offers and its just a lot of B/s to sift through it all. I am sure there are a majority of people on here that are fluent in the editing field as well.
So I formally submit to you the question stated above.
Thank you for the responses.

It depends on your workflow.
If you want to do low level sound wave editing, then I suggest audacity, it is cross-platform and straight forward.
If you want more of a sample/sequencer you have lots of loop or MIDI apps to choose from, but that depends more on your platform, and I'm not up to date on them.
Cubase, Logic, Digital Performer and Pro Tools are common, popular pro digital audio workstations. They all cost several hundreds of dollars and are fairly complicated to use, especially if you are new to digital audio. Cubase and Logic seem to be popular in the remix/electronic music scene. Digital Performer is popular among film composers. Pro Tools is a popular choice for TV/Film sound design and mixing. I use Digital Performer and like it a lot. It's slick and powerful.
There are cheaper, simpler options out there. I believe Apple's 'Garage Band' is to music editing, what 'iMovie' is to video editing, though I've never tried it.
alternativeto.net may be of assistance in finding something you can afford (assuming you can't afford the stuff DFT mentioned).
Here's the page for Cubase, for example:

I second Audacity as a great piece of open source software, nice sound editor.
Thanks a bunch everyone.
I use a program called Reason, I don't have much experience with other audio editing proggies but this one seems amazing and very professional, if an unmusical pleb like me can use it effectively.
This is assuming you have no moral qualms with the torrents, of course, fairly large DL from what I remember and very expensive otherwise.

Morals ? wtf are those ??
Does any one of a free audio editor/converter/software that will do batch lowering/decreasing audio volumes in various old WAV files? I tried Audio Editing Lab and Gold Wave Editor Pro., but can't find it.
Also, why do I get audio degradation on some WAV files after and playing back lowering audio?

I didn't dig through the features to confirm, but this probably does what you are looking for.
