I've been noticing the schadenfreude runs thick when it comes to this situation with Lohan. People around the internet are splooging with glee over the fact that she'll be sent to prison...
Why? I get some people have sad little pathetic lives and they're very happy to smile at someone else's horrible life. Why so much joy though? It's very upsetting to me.

We're sick of no-nothing socialites (Paris Hilton and gang) getting off with a slap on the wrist because of who they are. It is frustrating to people that realize if they did the same thing, the hammer of "justice" would come down on them with full force. Just because she made some shitty movies, she shouldn't have different rights than you or I.

I guess I just don't care about these sorts of things. I also don't understand why people like you care about them, I think we shouldn't ever hear about this but I don't get mad at the person that I'm constantly hearing about them. I just turn off the tv.

First of all, I did splooge all over myself: http://www.adamriff.com/images/randy_marsh.jpg
But it wasn't simply because I have some kind of blind hatred for this girl or something. Much like I said in the description of the post, if this were any Jane Doe in America they'd have the book thrown @ them. Cocaine possession? That should be a felony charge for fuck's sake!

Celebrities tend to get away with more because of their celebrity status and their monetary situation. In my opinion when a celebrity is treated fairly it's a small victory for everyone because no one should be above the law. a close friend of hers said:

“Lindsay has been going out, getting on with life as normal. She, and everyone else, genuinely thought that she would be given a bit of a scolding and released. Nobody ever even thought she would do a day in jail,” a source told Pop Tarts. “This is such a shock.”

But come on, she ALREADY got off for what she did:
Hit and run while driving drunk and in possession of cocaine while on a suspended license which she got for drunk driving) = probation???

Then she drinks while on probation and only goes to 20 of 27 required drug and alcohol classes. Come on, if this were anyone else you'd be outraged that something more wasn't done.

Ok Ok lets try this here, apply those charges to this guy. Now he get's some jailtime and everyone is happy. Still feel the same?

Is the joy perhaps from seeing such great acting from such an unexpected source?

Because people like to pretend the world is fair. We want to believe that just because you're hot and rich doesn't mean you'll always get away with driving while coked up. We want to know those specimens of humanity who are far more fucked up than us yet still far more successful don't always get everything their way.

A lot of responses to this are plain, ol' schadenfreude, but I see this as an opportunity for her to actually learn from her mistakes. Maybe she'll have some time to reconsider not only her actions, but what people should be in her life. So, yea. I'm kind of happy about it.

She'll be out of jail in about a month for 'good behaviour' and overcrowding anyway.

I don't feel bad. If making fun of stupid people on the internet is wrong, I don't wanna be right.
She's right though, I wouldn't make fun of her in person. I have a fear of gravity wells.

"You think I don't look like much"
I wouldn't put it that way...

Lol, man I feel guilty... but yeah, it is just so chock full of comedy. Deep down I feel bad though, seems like such a miserable hate-filled person in so many ways.

SAMURAI - zero budget trailer

>> ^hertzollner:

Love the concept trailer. Great atmosphere. Great art-style. It's just that the zero budget claim is a lie. I see a lot of students make the same claim. And it's nice for them so many people on the internet believe it's true. But it's a myth. You use software in creating this stuff, which cost money. This software requires hardware, which cost money. Everybody working on this needs food, which costs money. People sleep in houses that cost money. And all the assets you borrowed from other movies/trailers costs LOADS OF MONEY. Everything costs money. Nothing is zero budget. I mean if you could do this trailer 200 times, you could end up with an Avatar movie that costs literally nothing, because 200 x 0 = zero.

Oh...let me follow you over here to Videosift and say the same thing again...

Wow, thanks for your comment Sir BUZZ KILL.

I'm pretty sure most people understand the statement "Zero Budget". The beauty of this is that this very polished and professional trailer was produced with no budget other than things in hand.

When a film is green lighted at a studio the budget they set doesn't include the price of cameras, computers and software either...

Carla Bruni Asks For A Finger In Her Butt In Seven Languages

So, I'm trying to get the video to play...no luck, go to the dedicated page, still nothing, try refreshing, no go, click around on where the video should be, doesn't help...then it occurrs to me, just how much effort I'm putting into trying to see a video where a girl asks for a finger in her butt. Shame overtakes me as certain realizations set in, that I won't admit to here, and I slink off without watching the video. Well not before pausing to relay my diary entry on this matter to anonymous people on the internet.

If it's that important to you, just look it up in Google Translator?

Or try different browsers (firefox, chrome, IE).

Thunderf00t: Why We Won on Draw Mohammad Day

I think Thunderf00t is making something out of nothing. I mean it was pretty cool and all, but at the same time, how hard is it to find people on the internet willing to poke fun at something? Not very...

Agreed. I mean comparing people drawing cartoons to those who actually fought in WW2?* I hardly think posting a cartoon from the relative anonymity and safety of the web compares. In fact, I think it's drawing more on this phenomenon than on any sense of outraged defiance.

* Yes, I know the quote is from Shakespeare's Henry V, but I think the tv show is more prevalent in popular culture.
