Francis takes exception to Diablo 3

sme4r says...

First off, who is this directed at? ponceleon?

Secondly, shut up, as it is totally true that he is "online" constantly, and he will buy the game regardless of it's Internet based requirements.

Lastly, don't question magic 8-balls.>> ^Bhruic:

Just because your magic 8-ball told you that doesn't make it true. Believe it or not, for some people, requiring an internet connection is a deal-breaker. Some people are often in situations where they don't have a reliable internet connection. But don't let reality stop you from claiming to know what other people will do.

Cops Continue to Harass Emily Good

MaxWilder says...

Link to the original incident? I can't find it on the sift.

We need to find some way to stop the "police entitlement" attitude. They work for us, and they need to be put in their place. Dammit, I hate that phrase, but in this case it's true. They work for the people, and they need to act like it. And we need to beat them over the head with lawsuits and political pressure until they become "Peace Officers" like they are supposed to be, not an officially sanctioned gang.

And still i see people on the internet that are defending the cops. As if it is ok for them to arrest people who stand up for their rights. Such a shame.

The Internet Gets More Expensive: Per Usage Billing

MaxWilder says...

This is inevitable. We have been spoiled by unlimited data plans. The simple fact is that the more people use the internet, the more it costs the providers to keep up. HOWEVER, we will need the government to make sure there is healthy competition so that there isn't a complete disconnect between provider costs and end user price.

Google's increasingly worthless search results (Blog Entry by dag)

xxovercastxx says...

I suspect it's not so much that Google's results are worthless as it is that people on the internet are worthless. After all, Google is a search engine, not an answer machine. You can't expect Google to return information that isn't out there, somewhere, cruising the tubes on a giant truck.

Vice Guide to the 'Business of War'

DerHasisttot says...

*sarcasm-switch-on* Well that was informative, I've learned that weapons get traded, that Chinese aren't open towards free press, that some people want to shoot other people so the latter people wear nice-looking armor, that African people scam people on the Internet, and that there are two crazy individuals in Black Metal.

*sarcasm-switch-off* Well that was superficial, I've not learned why the USA is dominated by the military industrial complex, why weapons are sold to anyone who can pay for them, why the very high gun-ownership around the world is a danger to even Steven Seagal, whom we all love, why it is allowed for a tailor to shoot someone, even in armor, why Ghana is so poor its children poison themselves on the "first world's" garbage, why the "first world" just dumps it there and finally why a report about Black Metal focusses on two extreme and/or crazy individuals only.

Pro tip (no game-stepping involved): Equating criticism with "whining" makes you look petulant and childish. Yeah, telling you to get over yourself is a little rough, but turnabout is fair play, oui?

Look, if your ego won't allow you to stop being a condescending pedant when explaining something, then you're going to lose most, if not all, of your audience. And then what's the point of even trying to explain anything? For most people a negative tone DOES subtract from the point one is trying to make, whether you believe it or not. You're the one being silly if you don't understand basic communication skills. (Did you check out that link I provided? It's actually pretty good.)

And if you think I'm not going to call out arrogant a-holes, think again.>> ^rembar:

A tip for stepping up your game: Stop whining. It makes you seem petulant and childish.
If you think I'm interested in checking my attitude to convince people on the internet I'm right, you're mistaken. If you think my tone takes away from my point, you're being silly. If you think I'm not going to call people out for acting like idiots....well...stop being an idiot.
And that's all I have to say.
>> ^kronosposeidon:
What game is that, dad? That is, how should I step up my game? By humbly beseeching you to teach me the error of my ways, instead of knocking you off the pedestal you put yourself on?
Note: I did not disagree with your argument. (I wrote that once already.) But you really need to check your ego. It kind of hurts your argument. You're a scientician, right? What good is the most brilliant idea in the world if no one will listen to it because of the attitude?
Here ya go. Don't say I never did anything for you.>> ^rembar:
I will when you manage to step your game up.
>> ^kronosposeidon:
I agree with your argument, but get over yourself. >> ^rembar:
P.S. Sifters, what the hell has happened? Y'all know I also think religion is a crock of shit but you are better than this....for shame.

Lindsay Lohan Sent to Jail for 90 days

I've been noticing the schadenfreude runs thick when it comes to this situation with Lohan. People around the internet are splooging with glee over the fact that she'll be sent to prison...
Why? I get some people have sad little pathetic lives and they're very happy to smile at someone else's horrible life. Why so much joy though? It's very upsetting to me.

Jail and prison are two COMPLETELY different things, man -- and on a side note it's pretty effective. I went once and I never want to go back, but at the same time it wasn't at all like prison (people in jail who were on their way "up state" informed me of the difference). Most of the time you just sit around at your bunk, read books, watch television, play cards, hang out and talk to people -- it's literally just hangin' around. (Orange County jails at least.)

But it's also a great big nothing -- what I mean by that is that it's a lot like being in a big ol' waiting room, so there is a lot of time to reflect and very little access to drugs or alcohol. Jail is where you go to reflect on your massive FUCK UP. And Lindsay done fucked up.

I'm upset that she didn't get as much time as the average joe would, but that's a separate issue from my gladness at her going to jail. Jail IS NOT unfair punishment. It's extremely just, especially when this isn't just about doing drugs, but endangering the lives of the community while doing drugs. There's a difference.

We're sick of no-nothing socialites (Paris Hilton and gang) getting off with a slap on the wrist because of who they are. It is frustrating to people that realize if they did the same thing, the hammer of "justice" would come down on them with full force. Just because she made some shitty movies, she shouldn't have different rights than you or I.

I've got the answer...turn off the damn TV and don't look at any entertainment magazines. Also keep on the look out for out of control socialite cars. I get the wanting to make sure all people are treated equally, the way to do that is to stop elevating them by watching their bullshit shows. We created them, then we get mad when they act like they're above us all? BS, turn off the TV, stop making gods of regular people.
