Joe Rogan's "You're a Fucking Human Being"
>> ^swedishfriend:
joe rogan is watched by over a billion people every ufc event (yes over a billion people watch each UFC event). He still does stand up and he is a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu, had a great part on one of the best sitcoms of all time, News Radio. He is an open cannabis user (brave for media personality). He is teh roxxors.
He's also a moon hoaxer, i.e. he thinks the Moon landings were faked. Unless he's retracted those statements and admitted he was very wrong(some time later) after being completely dismantled and destroyed by Phil Plait, of Bad Astronomy fame, on I think it was Penn & Teller's radio show. He made a huge fool of himself; I can only hope he's learned something from that experience.

I try to avoid dogma, especially when it's being delivered with passion in an elevated voice. This definitely includes Joe Rogan.

Maybe if Jesus dropped the f-bomb a bit more in his parables it would resonate with that crucial Gen-Z demographic.>> ^Abel_Prisc:
While the above comments are true, I think it's an important message to those who have forgotten what's really important in life. Sometimes you don't have to be totally original to be refreshing. Sometimes a message just needs to be a healthy reminder...
The problem is that most people who "follow Jesus," aren't actually following Jesus. None of the shit he said or did is even what the bible is about anymore since humans had to go and be selfish fucking pricks and rewrite it over and over to suit their own agenda and influence the people to their will. It's bullshit now.
Sure, if you follow his original teachings and ignore all the stupid existentialistic bullshit and the stupid rules people created after the fact, you're golden. But the problem is, most people are ignorant of just exactly what they're following. Instead of "following Jesus," they're following the bible. Not at all the same thing. Not anymore.

I tend to look at it the other way...the core of religion is providing a soft cushy life for priests. All the rest is window dressing designed solely to attract new hosts for the parasites.

A billion people watch every UFC event? Out of who's ass did you pull that number?
As to the topic, at religions heart is a message about living a good life that is healthy and kind to others. But unfortunately that heart is bound by thick cords of dogma and forced belief in the nonsensical. Religion's surface is what done little but hold humanity behind. At it's core religion can help people live better lives. But on it's surface we see greed and the desire for power, wealth and control over the masses at any cost.

My thoughts exactly.
"The right path to being a happy and healthy person is to do all the shit we already know how to do."
Uhh... that's exactly what religions provide for a lot of people: a structure and social network that helps motivate them to do the things that they know they should do, but don't always do.

Anyway, he's saying very little that's new - Siddhārtha said pretty much the same thing nearly 2,500 years ago.

I normally don't like Joe Rogan. In fact, most of the time I wish he'd just shut up. But this is golden. Excellent talk, excellent post.

THANKS! I listen to Joe Rogan's podcast. In fact I listened to this one, just not all the way through. I'm glad you found it!
UFC < Pride
From a spectator standpoint Pride fights are more intense to watch. Due to the lack of ruling against head kicks while the opponent is on the ground, the grappling stalemates common in the UFC are fewer.
Here's Joe Rogan's opinion on the matter. It's not too absolute, but he points out benefits of both: http://blog.joerogan.net/archives/1772
Joe Rogan & Lou Dibella debate UFC vs. Boxing
>> ^NordlichReiter:
You show me a MMA fighter that can do this:
You don't watch much MMA do you? Watch Anderson Silva vs Rich Franklin 2 or Anderson Silva vs Forrest Griffin.
Also, MMA would be much much more effective in a street fight than boxing, because it encompasses a much larger subset of what can happen in a street fight. Brazilian Jiujitsu, not sport Brazilian Jiujitsu (there's a big difference) was designed for self defense.
Here, I found some clips for you:
