Joe Rogan's "You're a Fucking Human Being"

I like Joe. He makes a lot of sense in this one.

Isn't Joe's steps for a rational, healthy life also a "road"? You may say it's just common sense, but often common sense is the wrong answer - and the right answer is an unintuitive choice.

Anyway, he's saying very little that's new - Siddhārtha said pretty much the same thing nearly 2,500 years ago.

SDGundamXsays...

My thoughts exactly.

"The right path to being a happy and healthy person is to do all the shit we already know how to do."

Uhh... that's exactly what religions provide for a lot of people: a structure and social network that helps motivate them to do the things that they know they should do, but don't always do.

While the above comments are true, I think it's an important message to those who have forgotten what's really important in life. Sometimes you don't have to be totally original to be refreshing. Sometimes a message just needs to be a healthy reminder...

Maybe if Jesus dropped the f-bomb a bit more in his parables it would resonate with that crucial Gen-Z demographic.>> ^Abel_Prisc:

joe rogan is watched by over a billion people every ufc event (yes over a billion people watch each UFC event). He still does stand up and he is a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu, had a great part on one of the best sitcoms of all time, News Radio. He is an open cannabis user (brave for media personality). He is teh roxxors.

People don't know to do these things! Most think it is all mumbo-jumbo (anything that actually would help). But religious shit they can't get enough of. Bruce Lee talked about something similar in expressing yourself completely, body and mind are not separate. Stability(or confidence) of the body gives you stability of the mind and vice-versa.

A billion people watch every UFC event? Out of who's ass did you pull that number?

As to the topic, at religions heart is a message about living a good life that is healthy and kind to others. But unfortunately that heart is bound by thick cords of dogma and forced belief in the nonsensical. Religion's surface is what done little but hold humanity behind. At it's core religion can help people live better lives. But on it's surface we see greed and the desire for power, wealth and control over the masses at any cost.

Stormsingersays...

I tend to look at it the other way...the core of religion is providing a soft cushy life for priests. All the rest is window dressing designed solely to attract new hosts for the parasites.

The problem is that most people who "follow Jesus," aren't actually following Jesus. None of the shit he said or did is even what the bible is about anymore since humans had to go and be selfish fucking pricks and rewrite it over and over to suit their own agenda and influence the people to their will. It's bullshit now.

Sure, if you follow his original teachings and ignore all the stupid existentialistic bullshit and the stupid rules people created after the fact, you're golden. But the problem is, most people are ignorant of just exactly what they're following. Instead of "following Jesus," they're following the bible. Not at all the same thing. Not anymore.

kymbossays...

He acknowledges it's not new. But I disagree that what he's saying is the same as religion. He's not telling anyone what to believe, beyond 'be nice to yourself and others'. Contrast that with Catholicism, and they are some glaring differences. Gays are evil, for example.

He's also a moon hoaxer, i.e. he thinks the Moon landings were faked. Unless he's retracted those statements and admitted he was very wrong(some time later) after being completely dismantled and destroyed by Phil Plait, of Bad Astronomy fame, on I think it was Penn & Teller's radio show. He made a huge fool of himself; I can only hope he's learned something from that experience.

Rogan was phenomenal in the moon hoax debate. I believe his actual position was something along the lines of "I know I sound crazy for saying it, but ... it might not have happened." If anyone can find the debate, post a link ... it was thoroughly entertaining.

I donno... I used to not care for Joe Rogan, but I just read his wikipedia page, he:

Smokes pot and advocates for it's recreational and medicinal use.
Is a black belt.
Has been on a few pretty good shows. TalkRadio was pretty good, and admit it, fear factor was enjoyable for awhile.
Annnnd he once was addicted to Quake! How cool is that? Lol, he was playing 8 hours a day!

It was entertaining, I'll give him that, and I can relate for the most part with Rogan's general point in this video. I just wish he hadn't overbearingly dominated that debate, barely giving Phil a chance to respond in kind. Phil let him walk all over him; the guy is too nice for his own good sometimes and Rogan definitely sensed that and took advantage of it. You'll probably be able to find the debate by searching Bad Astronomy's archives, there was a lengthy post by Phil (with a link to the "debate") expressing his frustrations trying to get a word in edgewise over Joe..
