How Bad is The Cost of Living Squeeze In the US?

newtboy jokingly says...

To my “Dumber than a box of hammers”

So, 2023 is over…
Gas, below $3 nationwide
Food, below last years prices
Cars, dropped all year in price
Interest rates…not up for credit cards that charge the maximum allowable by law to most customers, but true for loans….but for investments like CDs or bonds it’s a good thing so at worst a wash? It’s not slowing the housing market much.
Even inflation is at 3%…well below wage gains.

Also better, under Biden we avoided a recession everyone insisted was a certainty 12 months ago, and his administration has helped with student loans (and would have done more without Republicans blocking him), prescription drug costs, even car maintenance costs are lower thanks to the biggest infrastructure investment in our lifetimes. Unemployment continues to be at record lows for a record long timeframe.
His DOJ has also prosecuted thousands of cases of ppp loan frauds Trump allowed, recouping some of that easily stolen money.
If Republicans would stop blocking funding, he might fix the border too…we will never know because Republicans won’t pass a funding bill for more officers to catch and courts to deal with the influx, and instead are again threatening to shut down the government over the border without a solution themselves.

Wanna try again?

And I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again…I don’t wanna grow up, I’m a toy’s r us kid. How sad that must be for you.

Gas , food , cars, interest rates all cost more.

Your dumber than a bag of hammers.

Newt, grow up.

MyHouse.WAD - Inside Doom's Most Terrifying Mod

moonsammy says...

It's really not all that involved - the hardest part is absolutely going to be finding Doom2.wad. If you (like me) have an old CD on hand you probably already have that, though I recognize there's a huge difference between "I have the cd" and "I can easily access the cd"...

After you have that though, it's just a matter of:
1 Downloading / unzipping GZDoom (free, easy to find)
2 Tossing Doom2.wad and the mod's .pk3 file into the unzipped GZDoom folder, and
3 Dragging the .pk3 onto gzdoom.exe.

Getting mods up and running in something like Skyrim or Fallout is substantially more fiddly.

Ditto. I was going to download it, but I would have to find my old DOOM files, install and setup the game and its mod, play, etc. I ain't got time and resources for that like I used like during my younger days.

ROTFLMFAHS!!! Gotta keep an eye on the roaches or they take over.
He’s not living rent free either…and his pathological need to stay in the public spotlight is costing him everything, hundreds of millions and maybe his freedom.

Pelosi has lived in your head for a decade rent free, and no amount of MAGA terrorism will evict her!
Clinton’s been in there three decades, stomping on the floors and overflowing her toilet.
Biden moved in 6 years ago, and so did his son Hunter soon after.

Trump will be out of mine the day he’s sentenced and his anti democracy moronic insurrectionist insane clown posse disbands or goes to prison with him.

If actions are any indication, you are sadly mistaken. He’s never demonstrated even slightly above average intelligence nor any knowledge on any subject….ever. Lol. Don’t forget, according to him, he lost more money than anyone in America more than one year in a row, and went bankrupt what, 6, 7 times? His only claim to fame is inheriting hundreds of millions and doing worse financially than if he had simply put it in low yield CD’s. He’s also facing criminal charges in 4 states and federal court, and more civil cases that I can keep track of including one upcoming for restitution for raping a woman and another seeking $250 million (that he’s unlikely to win). D’oh!

I retired at 30 with a nice comfortable life and few responsibilities. WINNING!

I would ask….since he says his strongest ability is reading people, what is it about him that make SOOOOO many of his “best and brightest” turn on him and according to him become the worst dishonest liars on earth the moment they lose favor or stop benefiting from stroking his ego? His unimpeachable honesty and high level intelligence? I think not.

Now, have you grown enough spine to discuss Ashley Babbitt?

"A Fourth Car Absolutely Buggered!" - Deadly Mexican Street

I grew up close to Cd Juarez (Las Cruces, NM), and would be surprised if the record low there were not below 0F. It's been down to -10F in Las Cruces twice since I've been alive.

But I now see I misread, it was in a MexicAN city, ciudad Juarez, not Mexico City. In my defense, it came up googling “ mexico city record low temperature”, but I should have read more carefully.

Ice will be extremely rare, agreed, but not unheard of. I’d be more afraid of oil….even just a tiny bit of water makes me say “nope” and I extreme off-roaded and desert raced in the past.

Independent dive team solves missing person case, cops upset

bobknight33 says...

Mostly its Unions that protect bad cops. That needs to change.

These cops, like any organization run things their way.

EX. In my Co. that I work for If you need a CD burner I have to charge you $700 ( if you not under a contract). What I want to say but can not, is that you can buy one locally for $20.

Additionally, The customer because of their rules, they find it extremely hard to get one locally due to their purchasing system.

Cops are compensated and protected from accountability whether they do their jobs well or not. Unless there's an incentive to perform, why bother?

No, first we've got to remove anyone who says mega.

Crybaby bitches should be tossed out of school if they think this harmed their tender little psyches. They aren't adult enough for college....obvious since they can't count to three and think it goes one, two, about five.

Guaranteed every one who complained has a CD in their car where the actual n word is repeated ad nauseam and they love it. The administration should resign in shame.

Most Popular Streaming Services - (2005 2020): Monthly users

spawnflagger says...

alternate title: The Rise and Fall of Pandora

Seems Prime numbers are inflated - they probably count all the people (like me) who have a Prime account for deliveries, and tried out the streaming video once, then realized their content selection sucked. If it wasn't included, I wouldn't pay extra for it.

What would be interesting to see for comparison is number of physical media (CD, DVD, Blu-Ray) sold in the same timeline, as well as 1-time digital purchases, such as iTunes.

Introducing the Compact Disk

CrushBug says...

CDs were overpriced in my city, usually around $25. Until a new store opened, selling them for $13-15 then for 1 year everything tumbled down. It finally equalized out to under $20, right before the digital wave hit.

Introducing the Compact Disk

ChaosEngine says...

It's funny how he talks about the dynamic range of CDs, when producers decided pretty quickly that range was for pussies and What We Needed Was MOAR LOUDNESS!!

Regarding the scratch proof thing, apparently, the original spec for the CD was very fault tolerant. You could actually burn a cigarette hole through it and it would still play. However, it only held 60 minutes of music and the head of audio at Phillips demanded that it could hold 74m for one of Beethovens symphonies (I forget which one).

That story is probably apocryphal though.

What makes this song great? System of a Down

spawnflagger says...

Note: Toxicity is the album, the song is "Chop Suey!".

Love this band. Mezmerize is one of the few CDs I can listen to every song all the way through. "Sad Statue" is even more poignant nowadays.
