What I'm trying to say is that I'm glad I don't have some book that I'm supposed to follow that somebody could throw in my face if I wasn't following to the "t". I think it's fine to hold somebody to a set of standards. But what about you and I...as an atheist, what standards am I held to? Am I to run naked in the park fornicating with all of the woodland creatures? Am I not to be just as responsible for my thoughts on the issue as he is?

I guess what strikes me as odd is, by you saying what he's doing is both wrong (in your eyes) and "unchristian" then what you are also agreeing with is that if he believed the opposite, he'd be right (in your eyes) and a good Christian thus inferring a link with "good" and "Christianity" and "bad" with "unchristian". Rottenseed, I am a godless heathen- but I still agree with much of Christ's message. (or at least the message of those scribes who fabricated his quotes) Evangelical Christianity makes me angry because it's really a Tony Robbins self-help group. They believe that "the lord helps those who helps themselves" is in the bible and try to live by it - but then wrap themselves up in their pious, moral superiority.

The phrase is "bleeding-heart liberals"- a group that a majority of atheists and agnostics would identify themselves with. You don't hear "bleeding heart Christians" much these days- it seems to be all about building the next McMega Church™. (apologies to Mother Theresa, the Jesuits and other religious orders that have taken vows of self-service and poverty)

Hey I live next to Canada. I should be able to just drive across the border and get free medical care any time right? All Americans along the border should do it, I dont see anything wrong with it. They're a big country they've probably got lots of money and they're surely willing to spend it all on non-Canadian citizens and their health care needs, right?

Fair enough. The question is which is more immoral: being free to decide whether to give aid to others--based on religious beliefs or not*--or being forced at gunpoint (because that's what all government coercion is at its root) to give an involuntary percentage of your money to others who have not earned it, and in many cases broken the law to get to a place where they can receive it.

If Mexico wants to play this game of sending citizens most likely to overthrow its own corrupt regime northward, then the USA has every right to take as much Mexican oil as is required to pay for indigent care, crime and pollution caused by their illegal presence. That or enforce the border laws. And since protecting the borders is mandated by the Constitution yet ignored by congress, how can anything the Obamessiah claims he will or won't do be trusted?

I cant stand the republican party, and I'm not racist. Still, is it fair for any American needing health care to cross into Canada and go to the Emergency Room and have them foot the bill? Should they refuse us care? Or should they give us any care we need and just eat the charge?

^I think they should give emergency care. I also think it's a pander to the racist wing of the Republican party. It's not like illegal immigrant medical care is a major component of government spending now.

Just a personal anecdote- I was deep in Mexico about 10 years ago, got really sick- needed to go to a medical clinic- spent about six hours there hooked up to an IV, the doctors were fantastic and I paid $20 cash.

Americans already go north of the border to buy pharmaceuticals. I wouldn't see it as a stretch for them to use the ERs.
