Wingnut bigotry- so very, very unchristian

It's amazing to me that the unsupported rumour of poor undocumented labourers getting free health care - would cause a well-insured white man to arc up in front of a joint session of congress.

Joe Wilson wants to make very sure that people like this get no healthcare within US borders.

Don't worry, Joe - they will be denied healthcare as usual in the US, rounded up by border patrol thugs, handcuffed, treated like cattle and thrown over the border - as per usual.

I see you are an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbia, SC. Jesus loves you, I'm sure.

What I'm trying to say is that I'm glad I don't have some book that I'm supposed to follow that somebody could throw in my face if I wasn't following to the "t". I think it's fine to hold somebody to a set of standards. But what about you and I...as an atheist, what standards am I held to? Am I to run naked in the park fornicating with all of the woodland creatures? Am I not to be just as responsible for my thoughts on the issue as he is?

I guess what strikes me as odd is, by you saying what he's doing is both wrong (in your eyes) and "unchristian" then what you are also agreeing with is that if he believed the opposite, he'd be right (in your eyes) and a good Christian thus inferring a link with "good" and "Christianity" and "bad" with "unchristian". As I'm fairly certain you're a godless heathen such as myself, I'm sure it was unintentional.

Rottenseed, I am a godless heathen- but I still agree with much of Christ's message. (or at least the message of those scribes who fabricated his quotes) Evangelical Christianity makes me angry because it's really a Tony Robbins self-help group. They believe that "the lord helps those who helps themselves" is in the bible and try to live by it - but then wrap themselves up in their pious, moral superiority.

The phrase is "bleeding-heart liberals"- a group that a majority of atheists and agnostics would identify themselves with. You don't hear "bleeding heart Christians" much these days- it seems to be all about building the next McMega Church™. (apologies to Mother Theresa, the Jesuits and other religious orders that have taken vows of self-service and poverty)

QM, I agree- Australia's track record for dealing with aborigines is abysmal - I'm definitely not trying to set up a "us against you" situation, but that you would frame it that way certainly gives a good example of the reactionary neo-con point-of-view. America, fuck yeah.

Hey I live next to Canada. I should be able to just drive across the border and get free medical care any time right? All Americans along the border should do it, I dont see anything wrong with it. They're a big country they've probably got lots of money and they're surely willing to spend it all on non-Canadian citizens and their health care needs, right?

Why are you making this a racial and religious issue? Because if you wish to "go there" the Aussie track record on the treatment of Aborigines isn't so hot.

WTF is this comment, dude? a) dag was born in the US and b) what do aborigines have to do with health care?

This comment is a total mess from start to finish. Lazy. Lame. Unfunny. I think it's time you'd given some serious thought to stepping up your game. That new pennypecker kid is quite the scrapper, and he's got his eyes all over your title - like he wants to get all up in that shit, balls deep. If you keep slacking like this, that young upstart is going to usurp your status as official VS fringe-right spokesmodel.

I'm gonna be honest here, there's been a lot of talk around the water cooler that says qm is past his prime, that his best rhetoric is behind him, that he's too old to be a contender. BAH! I say unto these people. Lies! Damned lies! God damned motherfucking lies! I, my friend, would rather jab poison-dipped, sharpened No. 2 pencils into my temporal lobe before hearing yet one more of these nattering nabobs of negativism count you out.

I don't care what anyone else says, kid. You've still got it, champ, and that's an endorsement you can take to the bank, deposit it, wait for interest to accrue, withdraw it and then gamble it all away in a slot machine at the gas station just the other side of state line. You have what it takes to snatch success from the clenched jaw of defeat, and off to the shit smeared bowels of hell with anyone who tries to tell you otherwise.

Just kidding.

1) the premise of this blog post is absurd, that this whole push for unabashed communist health care in the USA is being thwarted by "racism" and a whole host of other -isms that have nothing to do with taxocrats' latest fascistic power grab, which is what obamacare is.

2) Señor Pennypacker hasn't yet figured out he won't "win" arguments with statists by appealing to reason or facts. VS for me is like the Kobayashi Maru but that's my choice.

3) All press is good press, though it doesn't do me any good.

QM, I agree- Australia's track record for dealing with aborigines is abysmal - I'm definitely not trying to set up a "us against you" situation, but that you would frame it that way certainly gives a good example of the reactionary neo-con point-of-view. America, fuck yeah.

Fair enough. The question is which is more immoral: being free to decide whether to give aid to others--based on religious beliefs or not*--or being forced at gunpoint (because that's what all government coercion is at its root) to give an involuntary percentage of your money to others who have not earned it, and in many cases broken the law to get to a place where they can receive it.

If Mexico wants to play this game of sending citizens most likely to overthrow its own corrupt regime northward, then the USA has every right to take as much Mexican oil as is required to pay for indigent care, crime and pollution caused by their illegal presence. That or enforce the border laws. And since protecting the borders is mandated by the Constitution yet ignored by congress, how can anything the Obamessiah claims he will or won't do be trusted?

* depending on others' charity means running a risk of having people not voluntarily give enough

Wise up, quantum, bringing up "Mexicans" in the context of a health care debate is a clear pander to the sizable racist wing of your republican party, just like their other recent racist hits like: focusing on black preacher Reverand Wright, making a fuss about Barack "HUSSIEN" Obama, and the whole nonsense about the birth cert. Now I'm not outright calling you a racist, per se, but let's not be so naive to believe your party doesn't constantly use racism, fear, hate and other dark aspects of humanity to manipulate their followers. You've even gone so far as to publicly admit you don't like to argue using 'facts' or 'reason'. You are republican to the core, my friend. Republican to the core.

I cant stand the republican party, and I'm not racist. Still, is it fair for any American needing health care to cross into Canada and go to the Emergency Room and have them foot the bill? Should they refuse us care? Or should they give us any care we need and just eat the charge?

^I think they should give emergency care. I also think it's a pander to the racist wing of the Republican party. It's not like illegal immigrant medical care is a major component of government spending now.

Just a personal anecdote- I was deep in Mexico about 10 years ago, got really sick- needed to go to a medical clinic- spent about six hours there hooked up to an IV, the doctors were fantastic and I paid $20 cash.

longde says...

I see your point, deathcow, but who says they don't do this already?

Americans already go north of the border to buy pharmaceuticals. I wouldn't see it as a stretch for them to use the ERs.
