Zero Punctuation: Call of Duty: Black Ops

chtiernasays...

I'm playing this game right now and so far it just feels like an interactive movie. And just like MW2 you get shot from all angles and have no idea where the fire is coming from. And why do they actually need to lock the gun at the beginning of a level, even lock the use of the scope... I get it, I'm not supposed to shoot until later but just let me fail the mission if I do so I at least have a chance at suspense of disbelief.

He's right, this game's intensity is ridiculous and the fact that it's popular just doesn't make sense to me and my old man hat. Now git off my lawn! Git!

Because people are either buying it for the MP or buying it because it's got "Call of Duty" on it. I'm guessing most of the feckless masses don't even realise BO isn't by the same people that did MW2.

It seems he doesn't like playing with strangers. No really, he'll play coop games with a few friends, but really seems to hate competitive online play. Maybe too many bad experiences on xbox live.

steroidgsays...

I think the thing that annoy me the most about COD:BO's single player is how detached I felt from the character I was playing. Mainly because of the fact that he has a very generic voice and face. I'd rather play a silent protagonist unless I'm playing some over the top character like Duke Nukem. The fact that most cut scenes takes control off my hand or goes to a 3rd person cinematic view doesn't help immersion either.

It's definitely an improvement over COD5, but it's not as good as MW2 and far from MW1.

My_designsays...

What multiplayer? Seriously, the game has little to no actual team dynamics. A single high level, experienced player can impact an entire round and go 33 and 7 for a kill/death ratio. And don't even get me started on the servers. I spend more time migrating servers than playing the frickin' game. All in all I completely fail to understand the hype for this game. I do really like the player customization, but for a multiplayer experience, give me Bad Company 2.

I used to enjoy Yahtzee's rants but he helped me put my finger on why I now unfailingly zone-out in the middle of them now: his reviews suffer from the same lack of juxtaposition that he said afflicts Black Ops. I am amused for awhile then it's Charlie Brown's teacher time. I know it's part of the whole zero punctuation schtick but I think I would be able to pay more attention if he varied his cadence.

And that is why games can now be sold at SIXTY FUCKING DOLLARS and have a five hour play time. Thank you for contributing to the downfall of the video game industry. >> ^solecist:

i've already gotten 20 hours of gameplay out of just the multiplayer of black ops and i'm not even close to level 50 yet, thank you very much. i knew the singleplayer campaign would be short and linear and yes, this almost stopped me from purchasing the game...but i am glad i went through with it. did you start a similar shit storm when battlefield 2 came out for 50 dollars and NO singleplayer campaign? game publisher profit whoring isn't some new thing, bro.

MarineGunrocksays...

I don't see a shit storm here, but no, no fit about BF2. Please don't feel personally insulted or attacked, it wasn't supposed to be about you. My apologies. I just regard video games as an art form in the same manner as story telling. It just saddens me to see developers give you less at a higher price all the while cheapening the whole experience.

This isn't a game review, this is a campaign review. Dammit Yahtzee, do you never play online? Bitch about the god-awful matchmaking, the shitty hit detection, the fucked-over sniping, and general fucktardedness of ragequitting hosts and failed migration.

JAPRsays...

Fuck all these new video games, btw, I've been logging increasing hours on CS 1.6 because it's from a time when gaming was good and balanced and fun.
