Traffic Control in North Korea

Ok, this creeped me out too, and brought a variety of responses.
The silliest: I couldn't help but wonder if passing motorists say, "Domo arigato, Mrs. Roboto".

(before anyone flames: yes, I know Japanese isn't the dominant language in Korea. It's just a lame joke, lighten up)

This one's way up there on the 'interesting' scale, for sure. And mixed feelings indeed. Curiosity at seeing different ways of the world. Pity; it looks like a dangerous job, and I hope her shifts aren't too long. Admiration; she's disciplined and good, and perhaps this shows a tradition and formality to the society. Allure - she looks cute as hell out there.

Primetime (I think) recently did a special on North Korea, and this sort of thing is only the tip of the iceberg. I'm not sure if it's available on YouTube, but it was REALLY fascinating.

Brains Post reminded me of the Wallpaper out there of the World at night. Shows what the planet looks like from space when its Dark. If you look at the picture you can actually see where the 38th parallel is. NK is one of the darkest places on the planet at night. Siberia has more lights on.

What's scarier is that even when there are no cars at all, she'll still be doing her little dance, and changing the direction of the non-existant traffic, just like regular street lights keep going when the roads are empty.

I wonder if she ever gets up in the morning wanting to go to work.

I wonder if this might be some kind of propaganda, for which side I couldn't tell ya. But from what I've heard from travelers to NK, one would be lucky to see that many cars pass by in a year, let alone a few minutes. Whaddya think? Although I suppose it is possible that there's some very busy location that does get a lot of traffic.

P.S. Somebody find that video of the Air Force air traffic controller for comparison.

P.P.S. Where can I buy her?

tbh, I look at this as just something different. People from different countries dont all have to do the same thing... It's nice to see a change.

This system might be better as she can determine if there are in fact cars waiting in a particular direction or not and if not to allow the traffic to continue in one direction and when a car pulls up in the other direction she can pause the traffic briefly to let it through.

^ Because despite the inspiring perfection of her drill, having a human doing this job (which could be equally be done without the perpetual regimentation) just screams totalitarianism.

I would doubt that this officer would ever relax her form, even if she couldn't see a single car or padestrian for miles. This camera probably wasn't the only pair of eyes keeping watch.
