Now there are two bridges right next to each other.

Too bad about the little dog. Why wouldn't they have simply scooped him up when they abandoned car? Next question: why abandon the car in the first place? They would have gotten off the bridge faster driving than on foot!

I doubt that it would even be possible to drive with the bridge wobbling around so violently.

I can't imagine the sort of sound produced by such an occurrence. Pity about the dog, but I'm stunned learn that the man walking across the bridge had gone out there of his own accord. I'd always assumed he was the fellow in the car and was simply escaping.

Physics question, am I wrong in thinking that loading the bridge with cars quickly would have prevented the collapse?

Yes Doc, and it's entirely possible that car contributed to the failure.

I always thought the video showed a man running back after rescuing a dog (with dog in arms)...was that a different bridge collapse or a clever ad (wasn't it pioneer radio ad?)? Also I remember reading that had the girders been constructed with holes to allow wind to pass, the bridge would have been stable.
