NYS Trooper Rosenblatt Doesn't Like Being Recorded

Officer Rosenblatt (NY State Trooper) threatens "I’ll find a way for the D.A.s office to arrest you” because he doesn't like being recorded. I wonder what his plan is for when he has to start wearing the body camera, and so is recorded at all times....I guess he'll have to quit.

Why would he worry about being filmed unless he is incompetent (or dirty) and has something to hide? You better get used to it copper because it won't be long before you all have to wear them.

I find meatbag messenger to be an inadequate command-giver - ignoring all requests by messenger.

If this guy had been a fireman or even a soldier, he'd have laughed in his face, but because this guy has the power to arrest us for nothing, we have to kowtow.

We actually expect police to talk like this now. Why is this OK?

Okay, yes, the cop is a puffed up dick but so is this smart ass kid who appears to be on a power trip of his own after spending the day perusing infowars in his parents' basement. It is obnoxious to hold a phone up in someone's face while having a conversation with them. The fact that he is acting within his constitutional rights doesn't make him any less of a prick.

The thing about interacting with the police is that their job is to find something that you've done wrong and make you pay for it. A jury will believe a cop over a random person, and cops can be wrong, and cops can be corrupt. Recording an encounter gives the jury an objective view of what was recorded. In a one on one encounter, it's just about the only thing that a person can do to prove that they're telling the truth. It's not being a dick any more than refusing to answer questions is.

I tend to have a problem with people who are dicks about recording officers, this guy has no problem with me. Infact I like him a lot. Why? Because he DOESN'T say unnecessary things. The entire video is about the cop complaining, asking if the driver has a problem. The driver repeats one question of which the cop never answers because we all know the answer. When ask why he was pulled over he was told it was his exhaust.. he had NO EXCUSE! He accepted it, he had all his paper works and the cop should have written his ticket and been done. At no point did the driver reveal any additional info or give any other excuses, or opinions that could have gotten him into trouble or delayed the stop further.

YT comment

John Houghtaling " Hello, everyone. My name is John Houghtaling, obviously the person in the video. I want to thank everyone who has commented and shared this story. Here is what happened after he came back to the car: Trooper Rosenblatt approached my vehicle as I still had my phone in my hand. When i went to hit the record button, he used his hand/fingers to reach in my car knock my phone down. I was terrified that this man was going to take me out of the car and assault me. After he knocked my phone out of my hand, he dropped a muffler ticket into my car and left the scene. Three days later I received three more tickets in the mail. One for using my phone while driving, one for littering (which I agree was wrong), and one for having an air freshener on my mirror. "

I think we're going through a period of transition. Before long the cops will realize they can't fight being recorded and these videos will end up being pase.

DrewNumberTwo, I see where you're coming from. Perhaps when can come together in supporting the proposition that police officers routinely wear body cameras.

And jmd, I would agree that I've certainly seen worse when it comes to homemade police encounter recordings. My general annoyance is directed at a group of predominantly adolescent/early 20's males who find ways to be obnoxious and disruptive toward law enforcement officers while avoiding breaking the law, and then equate legality with morality. I would not classify this instance as disruptive in itself, though I speculate that it represents a more general pattern of disruptive behavior given the officer's allusion to other incidents at the police station. I appreciate that my speculation is just that, speculation.

Lastly, I will say, particularly after reading the video taper's post on YT, that the bigger concern here is the police officer's behavior. Wielding the powers invested in a position of privilege as a means to retaliate against someone for personal grievances is reprehensible.
