Kimmel Takes On Gawker Stalker

Kimmel was Guest Hosting the Larry King show.

From Newsbloggers
"Today, the New York Times announced that a group of bloggers has called for universal standards/manners to be adopted by those in the blogosphere to cut down on the nastiness. Super... though one of the editors here equated that siren call to 'spitting into the wind.' Perhaps blogging into the wind is more apt.

As you'll see below, Jimmy Kimmel is all for higher journalistic standards on blogs. Watch him take a Gawker.com editor to task for a recent post."

Gawker later responded to Kimmel on their blog.

This is my nightmare woman incarnate. With her "omg this is crazy and soooo not cool!" face expressions and bs rationalizing, you seriously pray that someone breaks her face.

Edit: Insert PC disclaimer here.

since when is kimmel on cnn? and what's with the white collar blue shirt and suspenders, it's like he's trying to look like Larry King? subliminal schtick?... makes me chuckle anyway.

detlev409says...

Right at about 5 minutes in she claims no one has a reasonable expectation of privacy and starts to make a noises to the effect that it might not be such a bad thing.

This woman is made up of just about everything that's wrong in America.

Superganja23says...

I am not a violent man, I am not a wifebeater

But holy shit all throughout that video I wanted to beat the shit out of her with her fucking "Oh mi gawd lol!" preppy attitude....

sorry for exploding on the sift lol

spoco2says...

Her stating that no-one should have the expectation to be able to do things without someone noticing them is just horrendous. It really is a case of

'Yeah, well, why can't I?'
"Well, because, how would you like it if anytime someone noticed you in public they got it put up on a website"
'I would so, like, totally, love it... I love to be noticed'
"You don't think it'd become, you know, old pretty quick?"
'Oh, shuddup... noooo, I love everyone and they all love me lol' (Yes, she actually says L.O.L )
"What if you had a creepy stalker guy who wanted to rape and kill you, would you still be happy for people to be tracking your movements so he can easily find out where you are with a web phone?"
'Gee... that'd be, you know, like, totally bummeriffic... you're bringing me down here'
"Yeah, well, that's kinda what your f*ckin' whole 'no-one should be able to expect to not be noticed' thing boils down to... get popular, loose ALL personal privacy... NOT GOOD"
'You're like, sooo mean, like, I, like, don't like you any more... I'm going to go and cry on my video blog'

She's one of these painful people who obviously think that because they're beautiful (she is), and bright and bubbly, no-one can possibly take any offense at anything she ever does. How about someone starts a Gawker Stalker Stalker site where anyone related to Gawker is stalked?

I do have to say one very amusing thing for me though is that Kimmel says 'Why would anyone want to advertise on a website?'... well, Kimmel Live has prominent, top of page advertising on 'the superficial' at present... a celebrity gossip page... so... hmmm... double standards?

dw1117says...

Damn, that woman's face is out of control. Looks like she could be in a snobby high school girl movie.

I think the face expressions are not a good defense when arguing.

Sadly, no one mentioned all the celebrities who have already been murdered, like John Lennon. They let her off the hook on the real time thing. If a given beautiful actress is spotted going into a theater to see a particular film, that and it gets posted in 15 minutes, that give John Q. Stalker more than an hour to get there and find a good spot.

This girl is a drooling idiot. She obviously has not a clue what the word "journalism" or any concept of fundamental rights.

dorafsays...

I'm disappointed that Kimmel takes offense to the "when is he not intoxicated" story. I remember when he used to make fun of celebrities on The Man Show. Somehow, when Kimmel does it, he calls it satire. When some airheaded blogger does it to him, it's libel.

I hate to defend the girl, but she's correct about one thing: what she does isn't all that different from what the National Enquirer or the Star does. One of the old guys says something about how they have lawyers and fact-checkers. I'm sure they do. They check, then ignore the results and print whatever they want anyway. But I have to agree with the other old guy; it's all crap. The Star, the Enquirer, her site... it's all fast-food journalism. Alot of flavor but no beneficial substance.

You all need to get off jimmy kimmel's fat nuts. I don't know how he can be so out of touch with the discussion considering his show is all about celebrities and occasionally internet material, but saying something like, "I don't know why anyone would purchase advertising space off a website" appraises his expertise on the subject. Emily Gould seems to be a lot more aware of the legal ramifications and mentions that celebrities are not entitled to the same degree of privacy as non-celebrities. Tack on the fact that anyone can upload a cellphone video of you onto youtube whenever they feel like it, or say anything about you personally that they want and it should come as no surprise that this tool exists. Fat fuck Kimmel, not an actual comedian, is butt-hurt that he was said to be noticeably intoxicated, when considering his attitude, it's not that far-fetched he is intoxicated at any given point. I guess he's so insecure that he needs the gawker audience's approval. Maybe the big baby should sue the weekly world news for convincing his children that a bat-boy will eat them.

Let's not forget about this small, and shrinking, thing called freedom of speech, or the fact that celebrities know the risks (and rewards) of being in the public eye. Just because of the remote possibility that there is a mentally unstable individual who could go to every sighting of a specific celebrity that they have a grudge against and eventually one will be close enough that they could find that celebrity and of their own will commit a crime, you call her immoral and without conscience? I'm sorry, this service is not provided just by her but by the thousands of people who submit sightings, and if one crazy nut-job works up the motivation to do some harm to a celebrity, they would probably find a way to do it with or without the 'Gawker Stalker.' No, wait, you scared little children were right, John Lennon was killed by gawker.

Grow up, get a brain, re-evaluate your laundry list of 'fundamental rights' which you retarded hypocrites regularly violate and when you finally see the light, go towards it so we don't have to deal with you anymore.

Fuck Jimmy Kimmel. I mean really screw that sanctimonious ass. I personally never look at the gawker stalker map, but Emily did not invent celebrity gossip journalism, the idea that US weekly or Star has standards is a laugh, and go read some of the asinine comments on the site. It's a chance for regular idiots to make snarky comments like the following:
Jude Law heading into Gray's Papaya. He was talking on his cell phone as he walked in. He came out with a big bag, looks like he took lots of hot dogs to go! Jude better watch that figure of his!

Much ado about nothing. This site lets the vapid public write their own supermarket tabloid captions. If you want to see a site that I'd be worried about if I was a celebrity visit thesuperficial.com.

Deanosays...

Cute girl but she didn't get a fair hearing in my opinion. Easy for mainstream, albeit lightweight, tv programmes to get worked up about a website. What is this, 1999?

Personally I think the ranks of celebrities could do with thinning out

cybrbeastsays...

I was going to write a big post, but I have nothing much more to add to Insolent1's post.

Kimmel just lost a lot of respect from me.
People choose to become celebrities, they know what might follow.
Personally the constant harassment by paparazzi of some celebrities seems much worse to me.

djsunkidsays...

Interesting that a woman who has a website that forms its basis on Celebrity Worship is on Jimmy Kimmel saying that she is in favour of knocking celebrities off of their pedestals.

Fuck celebrities.

... especially Winona Ryder and Halle Berry, I'd be all for that.

statueofmikesays...

Insolent1 - agreed.

I think the big point she was trying to make was the idea of 'citizen journalism,' or just anyone saying what they want on their site.

Like any internet forum, participants are forced to doubt the accuracy of anything that is said. It's just that in the world of CNN and Jimmy Kimmel, 'viewers' don't have much choise but to accept everything at face value, so this idea of keeping in touch with reality and real every day people doesn't fit well in Jimmy Kimmel's world.

specialksays...

Why does it matter whether or not the chick is hot? That seems to be a point that keeps coming up. Regardless of all the other bull this clip contains - and I'm not going to waste my time watching it again - what really bothered me is that she calls what she does "journalism."

gwiz665says...

Hmm, Jimmy Kimmel lost some credibility in my book. With him on the Man show doing what he did there and being quite a bit to pious here. That being said, celebrities have always been targets of slander and while the gawker-stalker thing is "citizen journalism" many tabloids are just organized citizen journalism - and tabloids have more false news than anything.

djsunkidsays...

> Why does it matter whether or not the chick is hot?

Exactly! Or if her bra is like a red lacey thing that her bosom strain against, does it matter?

LOL! That's the best comment in ages!

viewer_999says...

I was ready to trash this airhead one minute in (could she *be* more annoying?) but then I read the comments and saw that just about everyone had already beat me to it, hah.

Some of you are controlled by your testicles too easily. Sure she is pretty to look at in freezeframe, but that attractiveness is destroyed as soon as she opens her mouth (or rolls those oh so annoying eyes). Complete turnoff.

Oh and the comment about this being what is so wrong with America - what a silly thing to say. You'd probably find that this thread has quite a few such people tearing this bimbo down.
