Got me to it by nearly 3 hours... Agent Coulson is back... didn't really think he was actually dead anyhow, I thought it was just a thing Fury used to make the Avengers angry...

Why is Agent Coulson supposedly beloved character? (I've seen Avengers and all the other Marvel comic movies, but never read the comics.) When he died, I didn't feel anything because he always felt like a background character, but it seemed like the writers made his death scene a major plot point... am I missing something?

Agent Coulson earned his place with the simple line. "I will taze you and watch super nanny while you drool in to the carpet." He was a background character, but he was also the one that made everything work. If fury need something done. He sent Coulson. He was Fury's right hand man. He was surrounded by all of these bad-asses and he was not impressed by them. Ok, a little with Capt. A but that was a nerd thing. Find the 2 shorts vids. One is called. "A funny thing happened on the way to Thor's hammer" I can't remember the other.
He had some of the best lines.

"Agent Phil Coulson: You're at 114 Solenski Plaza, 3rd floor. We have an F-22 exactly 8 miles out. Put the woman on the phone or I will blow up the block before you can make the lobby."

A new series from Joss Whedon, eh? Well, I look forward to it until it's eventual and premature cancellation

that's right after Summer Glau is brought on with a recurring character.

So he isn't dead? I hope that's the case, and not that this show is based before the avengers.

I like it. Adds even another layer to Fury's deception.

Agent Coulson is a super hero.
He's the first hero whose super power is "No Fucks Given".

Anyone could defend humanity with super strength, invulnerability, unstoppable force...Coulson doesn't have these powers though. He walks into the fight armed with nothing less than his steel clad will and a pair of balls that must be hauled around in a semi-trailer.

Who's the real hero, Captain America?

I tend to agree. He's fairly bland but was a linking character in the various films before The Avengers, thus he's been built up to justify that.
