Janne Ahonen jumps too long (with dramatic finnish:)

Last jump of the 2005 season at Planica (Slovenia). Janne Ahonen won the World Cup despite this fall, but sustained a slight injury in the process...

That's insane! It looks as if he catches some kind of upwind that just kept him floating down the hill, and that he forced himself to land at the last minute. I'm sure that giant red line means "the end", hehe.

This is pretty ridiculous... they either need a bigger hill or a smaller hill, I can't decide. Either way, even if the video sucked I'd still upvote for the title

It's like a game of chicken with the bottom of the hill.

Not yet. A little further. Steady. BREAK! BRAKE! CRASH!

Maybe they should just change the game to "spot landing" to see who can come the closest to slapping down the ski's in a particular place.

That was so beautiful. If you watch the shot from the bottom of the hill (when he's flying straight at you) you can see him adjusting his flight with lightly moving his hands. It's like ailerons on an airplane. Really fantastic video.

What happened...this is a ridiculous thing to be able to land. Isn't it the point to jump as far as you can???

Rottenseed: The point isn't to go as far as you can, the skier is supposed to hit a sweet spot. Skiers lose points for over or under shooting the landing, and they can also lose their lives since that is the safest point to land. Some points are also given for style.

(Learned that from the Winter Olympics in Utah.)
