Iron Man 2 - Official Trailer

Looks entertaining.

A bad guy who is totally exposed wielding 2 energy whips for weapons seems like a pretty stupid villain. A thug with a 9mm would be more dangerous.

Also, Tony Stark is a total douche for hoarding his technology. I mean here we have a way for producing infinite clean energy, which would be the biggest breakthrough since man discovered fire. It would win every Nobel prize there is, including literature, because of how awesome it is. It would end our dependence on chemical fuels, provide unlimited freshwater, stop deforestation, end hunger, enable new means of space exploration, usher in a new generation of portable consumer electronics, etc.... and all Stark wants to do is fly around playing vigilante sheriff. What a jackass.

(this is meant to be satirical)

^ psst... he's not real.

^ Hint: It's called a joke. You realize that vampires aren't real either? It's ok to talk about the stupidity of Twilight, but yet pointing out the absurdities of a super hero movie is out of vogue? But yes, I didn't realize that fiction isn't real, and is therefore beyond reproach.

dethetersays...

This movie is our undoing as a civilization.

Step 1 - Make heros out of people that wear large, powered exoskeletal armor.

Step 2 - Engineer this in real life, for use by police and military forces world wide.

Step 3 - Never fear a protest / rioting mob or invading army again, as the power armored super soldier / police enforcer has arrived. You can sell the developement as protecting the lives of those who serve, and demonize the detractors.

Step 4 - Trample everyones rights.

Step 5 - take the man out of the suit, make the powered armor unmanned, place it in the hands of government officials. Eliminate the need for human armies, eliminate the ability to disobey orders.

Step 6 - Thank the marvel franchise for packaging the idea in such a way that the science becomes entertanment, and removes it from the realm of public debate.

Questions - How powerful should paramilitary police forces become, and does the idea of a fully armored, indestructable "good guy" scare people who concider one nations "good guy" as anothers butcher?

RhesusMonksays...

Why the fuck is Cheadle taking over Rhodey for Terrence Howard? Don't get me wrong, Cheadle rocks way hard. But if it was Howard who wouldn't do it, then he's an ass and needs to get himself a better agent who doesn't cool him off projects like this. And if it was Favreau/Esposito who couldn't get him back, fuck them in the ear. This brand (Marvel/Avengers) is gonna be a major thing in cinema. Any reason to change horses here is insufficient, except maybe death.

No, it's because the producers thought Terrence Howard was being over-paid and switched him for a cheaper contract with Don Cheadle. Needless to say, Howard was pretty pissed about getting the shaft.

HugeJerksays...

What I've been able to gather by reading from multiple sources is that Terrence Howard was the highest paid actor in Iron Man 1 and expected to be the highest paid for the sequel as well... but Jon Favreau and the Producers didn't like his performance or dealing with him on the set (I guess he's a difficult person to work with) so they had been cutting the role down. When they went back to Terrence Howard with an offer that was more in line with a supporting role, he refused.>> ^RhesusMonk:
