History Lesson for the History Channel

YouTube Description:

The History Channel seems a bit confused. (I intended to have this go up with my 2012 video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcc_KAhwpa0 but I ran out of time. Sorry!)

I've seen a lot more people and media mocking the History Channel. I guess they finally reached the tipping point for the amount of non-history related bullshit they can air before the well deserved mockery can begin.

Honestly, Pawn Stars delivers quite a bit of historical information. The package and presentation of the show may leave something to be desired, but they are not short in any way on historical information.

I have ALWAYS thought of the history channel as a place that shows educational shows, not all those dealing with history. History channel does very well with its programming aside from things like those swamp people... wtf is that about? Even ice truckers are a stretch.

Pawn stars and restoration are actually history related btw, the majority of items discussed and examined are old.

And the Science Channel now shows a lot of Firefly. Love Firefly, but really, Science Channel? At least when they gave up on Discovery Kids, and Hasbro bought in, they changed the name to the Hub instead of "Discovering" old episodes of "Jem and the Holograms".

Grimmsays...

I know it's just kind of accepted that these "reality" shows setup the situations so there is something interesting to watch. But I think Pawn Stars is accused of going so far as to hire actors to pose as customers to bring in interesting things that aren't even theirs.>> ^zor:

Totally agree. Except for Pawn Stars, which is kind of awesome.

I've been heavily thinking of reducing the number of shows I get from my cable company for the specific reason that channels like planet green, history, discovery, science all show a bunch of bullshit that repeats at all hours. Not that I watch TV much but when I do I try and find something interesting and perhaps even educational but it so rarely happens. More often than not I end up turning on BBC anymore.

Besides that any shows that I watch I can find on the internet at 1080p via two dozen streaming websites. I really don't see the use of having cable at all anymore accept for the few shows I really like to watch when they hit, like some of HBO's programming, etc.

US TV just blows chunks anymore. It's just so damn mindless. The acting and writing is shit in most US shows and 3/4 of the channels just repeat the same crap 24/7.
