Boise_Libsays...$ ?
spoco2says...I don't mind the idea, but I do mind the sanctimonious way in which they present these as the second coming of christ or something.
They're still a shitload of sugar
They're still bad for you, just getting rid of some of the shit still leaves a whole lot of other stuff we should only eat occasionally... and yet the problem is that people seem to eat candy every day. How about swap the candy for fruit?
gorillamansays...No 'Hydrogenateds' - good; in civilised countries poisoning food is illegal.
No Corn Syrup - good.
No 'Artificials' - this is meaningless.
No Preservatives, GMOs - this is fucking anti-science hippie luddite shit.
TheGenksays...Good for the States to finally catch up partially with Europe.
Quite disturbing what some companies try to sell as food.
schlubsays..."Everything that comes from the earth is the best..." So, let's put some crude oil in there. It's all natural!
gharksays...We've had a natural brand of lollies here in Aus for a while, they are pretty good, they don't use organic ingredients though so it's awesome to hear about those being used. @gorillaman some preservatives are pretty nasty (e.g. the nitrates used to preserve many meat products), and there is plenty of legitimate science looking at GMO foods, this article looks in detail at many of the safety issues if you're interested:
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1046/j.1365-313X.2001.01119.x/full
Plus there's the fact many GMO crops have substantial roundup residue, certainly not something I would want to eat too much of. Lastly, there is the issue of cross-contamination, once that happens there is no turning back, and the proof many GMO crops are safe is rather thin on the ground (the safety studies are generally very poorly designed and implemented).
My only comment on the ingredients of the lollies would be that agave is not a good sugar substitute or sweetener - it's often sold in health food stores as such, however it's extremely high in fructose, so much so that it's essentially HFCS on steroids.
dystopianfuturetodaysays...I tried some UNREAL peanut butter cups last night.
-They tasted much better than Reese's, but not as good as Trader Joe's. (This might have something to do with the chocolate to peanut butter ratio - Trader Joe's are 'minis') They were good, but not so good that they elicit an "OMG."
-Calories clocked in at 190, which I believe is about 100 less than Recee's
-Ingredients are much better.
-The portion size seemed smaller, which isn't necessarily a bad thing for supersized Americans
-They are about 50 cents more than regular candy bars.
Verdict: Tasty, but there are better options out there if you are going to indulge in calorie rich treats.
grintersays...candy looks tasty. One thing come to mind though:
. I hope they are paying attention to where their palm oil comes from. Palm oil plantations are a major cause of deforestation. This has traditionally been a south east asian problem (of devastating proportions), but now even that beautiful Amazonian forest that they use to advertize their product is being cut down for this purpose as well.
I'm sure there is a better site, but this is the first thing that google spit out:
